When does 1999 = 2002?

• In the opener, we were shut out at home by Arkansas, 26-0.
• Then we went to Tulane and got thumped, 53-19.
• Then we came home and were shut out for the second time in three games, 20-0, by Hawaii.
• Then we lost, 27-9, to Kansas.
• Then we had perhaps the most depressing loss of them all, a 42-28 loss to UTEP.
So how did the 1999 Ponies end their skid? With a 24-14 win over a heavily favored Fresno State team. SMU used that victory to embark on a 4-game winning streak (that was interrupted by the cancelled game at San Jose State).
I see no reason this team can't do the same thing. We let a rough one slip away Saturday, but anyone who says they don't see enormous improvement between the beginning of the season and Saturday's game against San Jose State is not watching the right team. The corner will be turned soon.
