pretty nice site.Intersting info in the News section about new uniforms, new scoreboard and new field turf for those that visit Rice Stadium. I think the long term plan is to eliminate all endzone seating reducing the capacity to 50,000. I think a family area like Ford is planned for the endzones. Actually that might work well in that stadium. I don't know what you would do to Amon Cater to make it visuably pleasing but Rice should definitely get rid of the entire endzone seating areas and then replace the wood benches. The new uniforms absolutely blow "but I'm sure the kids love them." Most college coaches have these types of sites-maybe its time SMU has one for Bennett and Doherty.

Ford Stadium is so much better than Rice Stadium. And it puts you 'right on the action', too.

We can run down Rice Stadium all we want, but there are only four on campus college stadiums that have hosted Super Bowls: Tulane Stadium (Super Bowls IV, VI, and IX - before the Super Dome came into existence), Rice Stadium (Super Bowl VIII), Stanford Stadium (super Bowl XIX), and Sun Devil Stadium (Super Bowl XXX).

I think Sun Devil Stadium is questionable because they only got a Super Bowl after the Cardinals moved to Phoenix and I don't count the LA Coliseum as on campus Stadium even though it is right across the street from USC.

What do all of those stadiums have in common?

Tulane Stadium - No longer exists because it was torn down so the team could move to a DOME off campus!
Rice Stadium - hasn't seen any changes since Super Bowl VIII
Stanford Stadium - people weren't allowed to sit in the 1st six rows because of bad angles...Stanford has recently announced a complete reconstruction of the stadium
Sun Devil Stadium - often noted as the most laughable excuse for a pro stadium in the country.

All of the stadiums had/have major problems. Just because they hosted a Super Bowl doesn't mean they are great stadiums.

That being said, Rice Stadium has good sightlines, but that's about it.

Those new jerseys of their's are U-G-L-Y!!

Out of the few times I've been to Rice Stadium, well I've hated it. Ford Stadium is far better.

Actually it's still there... They play one game a year there. Homecoming.

Old Sugar Bowl at Tulane was torn down in the 70s. The baseball field at Tulane stands where the old stadium stood. The Green Wave does play at Tad Gormley field at City Park every once and a while, however I don't think they have a field on campus anymore.

BP's right...the other poster was partially right about homecoming, which is played at Tad Gormley (capacity 26,500). It's the one time of the year they appear to have a full house. I used to watch my stepdaughter cheer at Jesuit HS games there.

Unfortunately, Katrina hammered Gormley.

Now, back to the topic of this thread...Rice's new unis inspire visions of SJSU from days past. Who adds the color yellow to a college fb uniform? With regard to the splintering bleachers, the actual bleachers at Notre Dame Stadium are in fact old and weather-worn. Of course, the product on the field is much better, and since every person is only allotted about 7 inches of weather-worn, old bleacher upon which to place their bottom, one doesn't notice it much.
