SMU Only Texas or SWC Team Not on UT ScheduleUT has released its updated list of future games through about 2011. There are games with Baylor, A&M, Tech, Rice, UH, TCU, UTEP and Arkansas leaving only SMU out of the crowd of major Texas Division 1A schools and/or former SWC foes.
I just noticed that... in 2008 and 2009 they could have an all swc non conf schedule..
we need to go for it.. why the hell not... there is no reason that sam houston state should get to play them and we shouldn't here is the breakdown 2006 9/2 NORTH TEXAS 9/9 OHIO STATE 9/16 at Rice 9/23 IOWA STATE 9/30 SAM HOUSTON STATE 10/7 vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) 10/14 BAYLOR 10/21 at Nebraska 10/28 at Texas Tech 11/4 OKLAHOMA STATE 11/11 at Kansas State 11/24 TEXAS A&M (11a.m./Central) 2007 9/1 TBA (we should be here) 9/8 TCU 9/15 at Central Florida 9/22 RICE 9/29 KANSAS STATE 10/06 vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) 10/13 at Iowa State 10/20 at Baylor 10/27 NEBRASKA 11/03 at Oklahoma State 11/10 TEXAS TECH 11/23 at Texas A&M 2008 8/30 TBA (we should be here) 9/6 at UTEP 9/13 ARKANSAS 9/20 RICE 2009 9/5 TBA (we should be here) 9/12 at Arkansas 9/19 CENTRAL FLORIDA 9/26 UTEP 2010 9/4 at Rice 9/11 TBA 9/18 UCLA 9/25 TBA
Re: SMU Only Texas or SWC Team Not on UT Schedule
for once i am not trying to be an [deleted] to you stallion.. but i don't see UH on there.. just being picky.. but WE NEED TO GET ON THERE for atleast two years
Get real, they couldn't care less about SMU these days. We're not even a gnat on Bevo's balls.
That phrase makes it different. You imply that UT is doing this out of spite for poor little SMU. UT doesn't even remember there IS an SMU.
Y'all want a game with Texas. Please take ours. I think we got royally screwed in this thing. The original talk was for a 1-1-1 (Austin-FW-Jerrytown). Then UT extended the Cotton Bowl thing. Apparently our adminstration just decided to bend over and take the 1 and done. Even worse, the date on that release is the day we're supposed to host Stanford. They better have cleared that with them or we may have lost that game.
The worst part of this is that we have 3 OOC home games set for 2007. We needed a roadgame and should have used this as a bargaining chip for long term deals with BCS schools. Take my advice, if Texas offers y'all a 1 and done, turn it down.
I read a post on the Rivals message board from I believe Jeremy Crabtree that says they have extended a series with UH too-those are probably the open dates above. Although on second thought I might have just seen Houston in Sam Houston-I can't check until tommorrow.
tell me why UT would schedule SMU again?
If anything, it's a one trip to Austin and that's it. There isn't a need for UT to be in Dallas since the OU game has always been here. SMU could get to be the sacrificial lamb in front of 80,000+ in Austin if they wanted to see out, but what's the purpose on that? Also, note the UNT has been on their schedule for sometime as well. After sitting in Kyle Field last year, I wouldn't mind waiting a long while to play UT. Mercy Stallion, do you look for negative slants to put on SMU? Of course that was a rhetorical question.
Sure there is. Sam Houston State is a Div. 1-AA school, SMU is not. Sam Houston State has been in the Div. 1-AA playoffs in 2001, 2003 and 2004. SMU (Div. 1-A) has not even been to a bowl game in the past 25 years or won a conference championship since the days of the SWC. Sam Houston State is the fastest-growing state university in the state of Texas. SMU is not. Sam Houston State will bring a large contingent of fans to Austin since a lot of its alumni live nearby or in Houston. SMU's fans....well. Its alumni and student body are so apathetic towards the football program, it is sad. (I've read enough of the posts on this board to get a feel for what it's like there in Dallas) Sam Houston State has never received the 'death penalty' although a lot of folks who are incarcerated near the campus have! And...Sam Houston State will be more than happy to take the money that the Longhorns will pay us to play them in Austin. SMU doesn't need the money...does it? See ya'll Sept. 16!
