ORSINI.. THERE IS ROOM ON UT'S SCHEDULE...GET US ON THEREexcluding central florida in 2007 it could be an all swc non conf schedule for the teasipps..
and 2008 could be an all swc non conf for texas 2006 9/2 NORTH TEXAS 9/9 OHIO STATE 9/16 at Rice 9/23 IOWA STATE 9/30 SAM HOUSTON STATE 10/7 vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) 10/14 BAYLOR 10/21 at Nebraska 10/28 at Texas Tech 11/4 OKLAHOMA STATE 11/11 at Kansas State 11/24 TEXAS A&M (11a.m./Central) 2007 9/1 TBA 9/8 TCU 9/15 at Central Florida 9/22 RICE 9/29 KANSAS STATE 10/06 vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) 10/13 at Iowa State 10/20 at Baylor 10/27 NEBRASKA 11/03 at Oklahoma State 11/10 TEXAS TECH 11/23 at Texas A&M 2008 8/30 TBA 9/6 at UTEP 9/13 ARKANSAS 9/20 RICE 2009 9/5 TBA 9/12 at Arkansas 9/19 CENTRAL FLORIDA 9/26 UTEP 2010 9/4 at Rice 9/11 TBA 9/18 UCLA 9/25 TBA
If you wanted to replace Tech or A&M with Texas, that is fine, but in addition to, I would have no interest.

Didn't realize UTEP was SWC... ![]()
no UT for me eitherThe ponies are not ready for prime time. UT has no reason to play us now that they have extended their contract with OU to play in the Cotton Bowl. If we are going to get smeared on TV, let's play Notre Dame and get a national audience. Arkansas will fill our stadiums any time we play them. There are better choices for Orsini than Austin.

And Rice is? And SHSU is? And Central Florida IS??
Re: no UT for me either
Well, of course, by all means let's follow the rest of the lemmings.
Of cource we should play Texas anytime we can get a chance along with Notre Dame,OU or Arkansas. Just not in the same year.It would help renew interest in our program locally and nationaly where as SHSU, Ark St. etc. are no win games. They are almost impossible to sell tickets to and we better win or we look like a complete joke. Know one cares that Ark St. went to a bowl game last year and got beat by whoever.
But it does not do much good to play those teams and get the living [deleted] beat out of you. Did playing A$M last year help our program - other than getting a nice check? If we could honestly compete with those programs, it would be different, but so far, we have not shown that we can compete with teams from the BCS conferences on a regular basis.
At some point, if you want to get better, you have to stop playing "body bag" games for the check. Every article on rebuilding a program has at least one quote from a coach that says it. I guarantee you, Todd Graham has told the Rice brass the same damn thing.
TO: PONY SNOB... As for us "getting the living [deleted] beat out of us" by BCS teams,I have personally seen us play and BEAT Arkansas THREE TIMES in the 1990's AND in case you were not at FORD for the opening game in 2000 with KANSAS I think we pretty well beat the ...... out of them. Throw in respectable games with Texas Tech in 2002, 2004,and an improved Baylor last year where we were leading in the second half in all three of thoughs games and I certainly think we can and have been competitive in some games with BCS teams recently. Remember, Texas Tech beat the crap out of A$m last year and Div. 1AA Texas State gave A$m a great game last year along with Baylor( who lost in overtime to A$M last year.) I think you are reading too much into our gameday with A$M last year. I was there also and my take was it was 105 at kick off and our kids got tired late in the second quarter and A$M QB McNeil got hot with the deep ball like he can.It probably wasn't a good idea for Coach PB to talk about beating A$M in the DMN before the game either. It is one thing to assure your team you can win but another to brag to the press before the game about beating A$M . That said to the press and our win over TCU got A$M's attention.Remember, last year we beat TCU, TCU beat Iowa St last year and Iowa St beat the crap out of A$M last year 42-10 at kiel field when QB McNeil was not so hot. So... on any given day WHO KNOWS ? If we had played A$M at the end of last season at FORD.....when we beat the crap out of Bowl Bound UTEP, A game with A$M that day would not have been 68-6 or anything close to that.
At some point, if you want to get better, you have to stop playing "body bag" games for the check. Every article on rebuilding a program has at least one quote from a coach that says it. I guarantee you, Todd Graham has told the Rice brass the same damn thing.
RICE COACH TODD GRAHAM said when he took the job "We (Rice) are not afraid to play Texas year in and year out. We as Coaches and players look forward to playing Texas " . Coach Graham is not a backdown sort of guy and neither is Coach Applewhite. Yet I agree he is not an idiot either and will certainly schedule easier games also. My point is you still have to play a Texas or an OU, or Arkansas every year if we can and we have to be willing to go out to Jerry's new place to do it. Rice played Texas two years ago in Houston at Reliant. I'm sure Texas will demand they play their again this year. However, though Rice Stadium is in as bad a shape as the Cotton Bowl, they still have the advantage of a 70,000 seat stadium that we don't.
I'd much rather play Tech or Baylor than UT or A&M..but that's me.
We don't stand a chance again Texas in any chance. And well we saw what can happen when we play A&M. Atleast we've stayed within a chance of beating both Tech and Baylor the past couple of times we've played them. (Except for that Tech 03 game). ![]()
