Figured I'd post this before anyone else. Such a shame. Looks like he's pretty much screwed from the information given in the article. If he's guilty, I hope he gets what's coming to him. We need to set an example for the rest of the school. Ugh.

What is it with athletes and transporting copious amounts of weed? Wasn't it Nate Newton who was hauling 200+ pounds of 'dro and he was pulled over because he was smoking a joint! The stupidity of these people is beyond comprehension. Taylor knew he had marijuana on him and HE called the cops! Stupid, stupid, stupid. Athletes are out of control, not just in Austin either.

Agreed. This just makes me sad. I'd feel almost equally bad if it was any other kid. They have it all, yet they can't get past their own bad habits long enough to realize it.

Mack Brown's statement:
“Ramonce was excused from the team prior to the spring semester to focus on his academics and has not participated in any team functions since that time. We are aware of this recent situation and will follow it as the legal system runs its course. At this time, we will not consider reinstating him to the team.”

Good to know he's not making excuses. What an extreme waste of talent.

Many athletes suffer from the 'Superman' syndrome that they are invincible and untouchable. Too bad that Taylor appears to be one of them. Here's the AP story:

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas running back Ramonce Taylor, who scored a touchdown in the Longhorns' Rose Bowl win over Southern California, was arrested Sunday by sheriff's deputies who said they found about 5 pounds of marijuana in a backpack in his car.

Deputies also found a live 40-caliber round of ammunition in the console of the vehicle, Sheriff Dan Smith said.

The 20-year-old Taylor faces a second-degree felony for possession of marijuana over five pounds. That could be punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Formal charges had not yet been filed. Taylor remained in custody in the Bell County Jail and was to be arraigned Monday. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Taylor had been excused from spring practice in March to focus on academics and had not participated in any team functions since, Longhorns coach Mack Brown said.

It is a shame.

But, wasn't he in some kind of trouble before the Rose Bowl too? The guy obviously has problems; problems that didn't develop overnight.

It's an easy call to kick him off the team now. Would like to have seen the reaction if this occurred in late December.

That was the touchdown that wasn't. The one where Young's knee was so down it was ridiculous.

One more thing speaking of 'Superman syndrome' -

Just last week Norm Hitzges was saying UT should 'watch out' after winning the national championship, because teams get crazy, think they rule the world, i.e. Ohio State, USC....

(Well, actually UT has felt that way for some time ... )

I am not a UT basher, but you have to admit they have a weed issue down there. Benson, Ricky now this guy - and they are just the ones that got caught. Sounds like someone does not have a good handle on the situation down there.

Yeah, but sounds like the weed was nowhere near Austin. Ramonce has been away from the team for a while now.

Oh, please.

Ol' Ramonce just started with the weed this spring, right?

And Ricky Williams just started in the NFL...
And the weed didn't belong to Benson....

Enough.

I still say this goes away big-time last December.

mr. pony - just to correct you, that was Selvin Young's TD you described. RT ran it in from about 33 yards and ran in the endzone untouched.

Really? I sure thought it was Ramonce. Guess I was mistaken. Thanks. Anyway ....

UT didn't score on the play - and Ramonce probably should not have played, either.

Which NBA player was suspended for five games DURING the playoff for violating the drug policy by smoking weed? What an idiot.
