Tomorrow's Front Page Sports Story in the DMN!

Postby MrMustang1965 » Fri May 19, 2006 7:36 pm

This story will have complete graphics and detailed information from the surgeons who performed the operation on the front page of the DMN! Just another way your 'hometown' paper is staying on top of things at the University of Texas! Buy your copy and make a Longhorn happy!

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas football coach Mack Brown is recovering after knee joint replacement surgery, a school spokesman said Friday.

Brown had surgery on his left knee Tuesday and should return home soon, spokesman Bill Little said.

Brown's college playing career in the 1970s was cut short at Vanderbilt and Florida State because of knee injuries which required multiple surgeries.

The defending national champion Longhorns open the season Sept. 2 against North Texas.

The DMN is the worst major metropolitan newspaper in the country.

Getting tired of this argument. Lay off of the DMN. The funny thing is, they have no obligation to write a word about us, in fact, I feel they give us more coverage than we deserve. And you know why? I think they do have a side to them that feels it is their civic duty to promote the major university in Dallas. If you go by interest and fan suppport alone, hell, they should never do a story about us.

Truth is, Texas, is the University of Texas, that is our state school. From numbers alone, there are far more UT grads, interested parties..etc.... in Dallas than SMU fans. Make no mistake, I am an SMU grad and love this school and attend every game that we play...but i sit in the bleachers and look at the lack of interest. The ECU game from last year is a prime example. We had a bit of momentum after playing Tulsa close, it was a beautiful day, and there was a hand full of people at the damn game. So, tell me how the DMN is obligated to chronicle our exploits when we can only get about 4,000 butts in the seats for a home game when probably less than half even subscribe to their paper?

When we start winning, the coverage will be there. Dallas is a bandwagon city. Hell, I remember WAAY back in the day when Verne Lundquist was the WFFA sportscaster and they did a full half hour special on the Mustangs when we were in the battle for number 1 and that was unheard of back then.

The Dallas Media will pay attention to us when we give them something to talk about. The fans will come out when we start winning. When the best you can muster is 5-6 for 20 years and throw in a few 0'fers along the way, we are lucky we get mentioned in the Daily Campus, much less the DMN.

Bottom Line, we are lucky as hell they even still talk about us. SMU fans need to come down off their pedestal and realize how few people care about this team anymore. For us that are left, we need to create momentum and turn it around. It is up to us and blaming even a micro faction of it on the DMN is total BS. Hell, they sponsor a lot of our events...when i listen to the road games i cannot attend pretty much the only sponsor is the DMN.

It is up to us to turn it around and demand excellence and when we do, the DMN will be on board.

/cheers

Good one. One story every 15 days is not really too much. SFA probably gets about the same coverage.

Next time you look at an empty stadium blame the DMN. They probably failed to preview the game.

With weaselly comments like that from SMU fans, don't expect the DMN to any more than they do now.

That's precisely the wrong attitude for us to take.

How about the fact that they ran a photo of a CLEVELAND ST. golfer from the NCAA regional tournament yesterday? He wasn't even a leader or anything!! Just a guy.

Where was a photo of an SMU golfer!?!?!? What the hell? The hometown team, a three-time conference champion, is at the regionals and doesn't get a frickin' photo?? See, that had nothing to do with fan support; that was just a lack of regard by the editors at the DMN. It's obvious, and it's BS and it stinks/

agree with PK -

however, if it wasn't for the the dmn in the 60's building up the cokeboys, they would have never been as successful as they were getting the metroplex & the state of texas behind them -

besides - every team needs a PR machine -

& i believe the germans were quite good at that in the 30's?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

You're joking, right? Do you seriously believe that if the DMN ran a preview of the game that another 5,000 people would show up?

Maybe 3-4,000, sure.

And why shouldn't they preview it? Think of the $$$$$ generates for the Cowboys Mavs and UT and the Big 12 by pushing and hyping their d*mn schedules.

Remember this one? MARK IT DOWN - HORNS PLAY HOGS IN 2008!!!!(pant, pant, pant)

Think you'll see that if we sign with Notre Dame?

The problem with having a sense of humor is often that people you use it on aren't in a very good mood... Lou Holtz

Laugh. Out loud. It does a body good.
