A Positive ThreadAs indicated by the thread title the design of this post is to be occupied only by positive remarks regarding SMU football. However, this thread is also semi-directed towards Stallion.
As someone who has frequented this board for about a year I felt that it was about time to finally join and begin posting my two cents. Throughout my visits I have noticed that Stallion has been consistently negative/pessimistic/realistic (or whatever one may interpret his posts to be) towards SMU football. I have also found MrMustang1965's posts to be refreshingly positive and optimistic. I was curious to see what they and others may see as positive elements regarding SMU football and its potential for next season. Personally, I see DeMyron Martin, our experienced receiving core and returning defensive backs (Sturdivant in particular) as positive assets to the team. Conversely, the inexperience of Willis and our seemingly inconsistent O-line play appear to be drawbacks. What do Stallion and others see as positive qualities that may lead us to a long awaited bowl next season? Sorry for the long inaugural post. Hope this topic is not too generic or repetitive. -Pony Dawg B.A. SMU '06, Philosophy, Advertising M.A. UGA '07, Journalism and Mass Communication (Mass Media Studies)
7 Wins = 5 wins from last year. 8 wins is an improvement
Tend to agree. But do I expect it? No. I would accept any number at 5 or above. Four or below, I would start to get worried. I would give Bennett another year though. Willis to slot receiver!
Just because someone would like a positive discussion on one thread does not keep anyone else from posting another thread on any topic or point of view they wish. If you do not like the topic, don't post.

Based upon that statement, what do you predict for the Mustangs' W-L record this year? Pony Dawg: welcome to www.ponyfans.com. Thanks for the 'nod' in your inaugural post, too. I try to be realistic about the Mustangs but sometimes the 'fan' in me gets in the way and I become overly optimistic. I don't know whether that's a curse or not but it's just the way I am. ![]()
There is a lot to positive about this year. SMU has some very exciting players on both sides of the ball. We have a settled QB position for the first time in recent history. We have a schedule that lets us build into the season instead of starting off 0-3. There are some unanswered questions, but all in all how can you not be positive for the upcoming season, though I am sure many here will inform me of the negatives. SMU hasn't been this well positioned for sucess in years.

ponydawg it looks like Pony Dawg is trying to steal your thunder. Or at least your handle.
And I got to say Stallion made me laugh quite a bit at his response. Welcome to the mayhem Pony Dawg.... Cheers, Thaddeus ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Yeah, I saw the year the new Pony Dawg graduated, got him confused with ponydawg, and was thinking: "Wow they should name a building after you if you paid a decade's worth of tuition at SMU." P.S. The duck walk is cool. ... _ _ .._
In no way did I mean to imply that I'm sipping on the "we're goin' 11-1 next season" kool-aid. I just wanted to see if anyone had anything interesting to say about potential for next season (especially Stallion). Don't get me wrong, SMU football has been a laughable embarassment at times, but I thought this thread may shed some light on potential for next season.
That's all. p.s. nowhere in my post did I confabualte about the greatness of SMU football, only its potential.
One thing I find encouraging and has me optimistic about this season is the large number of Sr's and Jr's on the starting lineup. I know we still have some holes and the starting QB is a redshirt freshman, but all the same I think we are going to be a much better team this year. Texas Tech will be a trial by fire for Willis, but he does have experience in being QB in some pretty high pressure high school playoff games which he handled very well. It will be fun to watch and see how he does. I'm hoping we will all be pleasently surprised.
