Three Ponies make Dave Campbell's All-Texas teamThree Mustangs Tabbed For Dave Campbell's All-Texas College Team
Henderson, Rogers And Sturdivant Named First-Teamers June 8, 2006 DALLAS (SMU) - Three members of the SMU football team have been named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's All-Texas College Team. Seniors Justin Rogers and Joe Sturdivant and sophomore Jessie Henderson were all honored in the magazine's 2006 season preview. All three players were first-team selections. At defensive end, Rogers earned second-team All-C-USA honors a year ago and shared SMU Defensive MVP honors with Rolando Humphrey and Sturdivant. He led Conference USA in sacks with seven and ranked in the top 10 in tackles-for-loss and forced fumbles. Sturdivant, a second-team 2005 All-C-USA honoree, was SMU Defensive Co-MVP along with Humphrey and Rogers. He was twice named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week and was the only defensive player in the league to win the honor multiple times in 2005. He led the Mustangs in tackles and pass breakups and ranked first in passes defended (14) and was fourth in stops (112) in Conference USA. His 112 tackles were 33 more than his closest teammate, and he had nine or more tackles in nine games. Henderson was co-winner of the James Bradley "New Mustang" award for consistent play along with DeMyron Martin. A standout kick returner, he was a third-team CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-American and a third-team All-C-USA pick. He led Conference USA and ranked 13th in the NCAA with a 27.6 ypr average. He returned a kick 88 yards for a TD against Tulane and recorded 179 yards on just four returns against the Green Wave - the third-best single-game effort in SMU history. In total, his 663 KOR yards on the year ranked fourth best all-time at SMU in a single season. SMU opens its 2006 season on Sept. 2, when the Mustangs travel to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech.
I don't know who writes these press releases for SMU, but the player descriptions were lifted verbatim from the pre-season all-CUSA press release. I hope its the same person, plagiarism is ugly business.
Congratulations! Nice to see the Mustangs garnering more respect from the media hacks.
I bought my last issue of DC's Texas Football Magazine two years ago. I boycott it now. I won't buy another one until I see a Mustang on the cover.
Ol' Dave has lost his touch over the years. Texas Football Magazine is now exactly what it's titled. All the more reason why I refuse to buy it.

Good god, man. If you're going to use the word at least spell it correctly. ![]()
OK Genius how many years do we have to post that Dave Campbell is no longer the edotor of Texas Football before you stop embarrassing yourself with this Dave Campbell has lost touch crap. I know its been posted each and every year for about 5 years. Yea Ol' Dave has really lost his way because of his coverage of the Number 1 Football team in the country. Texas Football is one magazine that without question gives the smaller schools more coverage than they probably deserve.
Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine is a joke. I am quite aware that he's no longer the editor of it and has not been for quite some time. The 'lost touch' comment was meant in jest.
1. UT has not been the preseason No. 1 team -- when the mag is printed -- in recent memory, and has been the postseason No. 1 once in what, three decades? I'm sure we'll see a pop-up model of Bevo on the cover this year. 2. Campbell's shamelessly blind loyalty is to Baylor High, not UT. 3. Before you go dogpiling anyone, how many times do you have to misspell EDITOR before you stop embarrassing yourself?
When you win the NCAA title, you get the pressUT is the media darling because they won the NCAA title. Better the Horns than USC, Notre Dame, Miami, or any other out of state school. Now if they start hyping the Frogs, we've got a problem.
