DMN Ignores SMU for 14 Days--AgainIt has been 14 days since the last story about SMU. They haven't done near enough about our recruits or Doherty's interaction with South Dallas.
Willis to slot receiver!
The gripe is valid. The DMN is full of it when it comes to SMU.
I'll make a prediction: If -strike that- WHEN the Mustangs beat Tech in Lubbock on Sept. 2, the DMN will barely squeeze it in at the bottom right hand corner of the Sports front page, just like they did when the Ponies beat Arkansas for the third time in a row about 12 years ago.
I did see that story the DMN ran on UT qb Colt McCoy yesterday. I think he and his dad swam across Lake Travis, fought off a couple of alligators, did open heart surgery on some old man, and then..........our hero Colt climbed some steep jagged mountain, fighting lions and bears to flag down help. Sounds like a great movie of the week to me!

Sounds like the lyrics to the SouthPark Epic, "What did Brian Boitano Do?"

No it's not. Reporters typically don't decide what goes in and what doesn't go in to a newspaper. He knows, I'm sure, that the readers of this site -- the most passionate PonyFans out there -- would like to see more SMU stories. If his editors read this board, then there might be some validity to the idea. But even then, they're most concerned with what will sell papers. As far as I can tell from the DMN website, the man in charge of college sports is Mark Konradi, and I've never seen anything that suggests he reads this board. Reporters can write all the stories they want, but it's the editors who decide what makes it into the paper.
Yes, we all know this fact. Calvin has shown that he is a very good journalist, I bet anything he wrote would get in the paper. How about a story like "Bennett Sees Early Recruiting Success."
What other forum do we have? I have written letters. As for your selling papers angle, the DMN has been losing business for several years. They fail to cover what the local community cares about--i.e. SMU football. Most communities would care that quality football was being played at rock-bottom prices. Willis to slot receiver!
One winning season in almost 20 years hardly qualifies as "quality football".
