$2.5 Million Gift

According to Robert Miller in today's (6/20) Dallas Morning News Business section page 4D, David and Carolyn Miller have given $2.5 million to SMU to be divided between the Edwin L. Cox School of Business and SMU Athletics. David was a 3 year varsity basketball letterman while he earned a degree in finance in 1972 and an MBA in 1973 from SMU. $1 million will be the first donation toward construction of a new basketball facility and $500 thousand will go toward enhancing the men's basketball program. The article is a full column and well worth reading!

Story should have been a front page note in SMU's hometown paper. At least a front page note in Metro or Sports.... but page 4B of the Business section??

I thought they already had a good bit of the $12 million for the basketball facility.

I thought they already had a good bit of the $12 million for the basketball facility.
Last I heard they have roughly 9.5 million of the 12 needed. This will put us to at least 10.5 million

That's a great idea. I look forward to reading it when the DMN gets around to running another SMU story three weeks from now.

Looks like you're in the minority, Stallion.
In the highly scientific poll on this website, 10 of 16 SMU fans think the DMN does not give SMU enough coverage. (63% to 37%)

I trust that my sarcasim was not interpreted as being anti DMN. I would love for them to cover SMU more, but I know that they will not nor should they cover SMU any more unless SMU does something to warrant coverage or the subscriber base magically increases to include majority of SMU alums. This is a business that is there to make money. I do not get the paper but I would bet there is an article on the front page about Iraq. Why?!?! Iraq is not in the Dallas are, nor is it even in Texas. They will print what they think is viable news for the readers of their paper. Why is this so hard to comprehend. It is not the DMN Charity and SMU Benefit for McClown and mr. pony. If you do not like it, do not read it, but do not expect them to cater to one or two people. When SMU does something newsworthy, good or bad, articles will follow. Until them, the shareholders wish you would just be quiet.
