I was just checking out the SMUMUSTANGS.com site and watched the Bobby Chase's touchdown catch like five times in a row...should I be seeing somebody!?...

I love watching that catch. Is there any way to see the whole drive? Covering 80 yards in 30 seconds with no timeouts is pretty amazing at any level.

I happened to watch it again recently too.
It's magic.

That is the best online add you could have made for purchasing 2006 season tickets... I just watched about eitght to twelve times... in fact I just stopped typing and went back to watch three more times.
Football season cannot get here soon enough.
It's funny - for something that I feel so much a part of, so much like I as there - that was actually the only game last year that I didn't watch live. In fact I was visting Dallas and attending a Stars game with Longhorfan68. LF68 had wanted me to experience a Texas OU game, and we also had Stars tickets that night. Believe me, I love me some hockey, and was damn glad to be at the game, but it was killing me not to be watching the SMU game. We went to two or three places in the limited time before the hockey game in a vain attempt to find a little portable radio. Instead I had to rely on my cell phone and my buddy Gerald back in Austin.
I would call in from time to time - he was keeping an eye on ESPN.com for me - and then for the final climactic minutes I was on the phone with him. I got ahold of him when there was little over a minute left and UAB had the ball and the lead, 27-22.
Gerald: It's not looking good man.
Me: I know, I know, I know! What down is it?
Gerald: Third.
Me: C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, defense please.
A little time had passed and ESPN.com is not refreshing fast enough for my liking, as it sticks on fourth down for way too long. Finally -
Gerald: Okay SMU has the ball on the 20. 23 seconds left.
Me: Which 20?
Gerald: The bad one.
Me: Damn it. Timeouts?
Gerald: None. You might as well not worry about it and finally enjoy the hockey game.
Me: I know, I know, I know. [to LF68] SMU 80 yards to paydirt 23 seconds left, no time outs.
Gerald: It's over man. I just don't see Smoo driving 80 yards in 23 seconds without a timeout.
Me: Me neither but you gotta' have faith man. C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon. Any updates? Hit refresh.
Gerald: No. Refreshing.... still the same.
Me: Damn, damn, damn. C'mon Ponies, c'mon Ponies.
I was admittedly a nervous wreck and couldn't be less conserned that the Stars were losing the game right in front of me, heck they had had a pretty darn good season so far. What's one game in a long season?
The folks around me were definitely noticing my agitation -
Me: Refresh damn it refresh!
Gerald: Refreshing, okay, I'm refreshing. No change.
Me: Crap! Crap!
Finally -
Gerald: Okay, okay - SMU at the 31 yard line 3 seconds left.
Me: Arghh!!! Which 31?
Gerald: The good one.
Gerald again goes into how he's sorry, but he thinks it's over. I tell him again and again it's one play. It takes absolutely forever for ESPN.com to update. I mean minutes go by, maybe 3, 4, or 5... then finally -
Me: Okay, dude, dude, dude - go to PonyFans.com, p-o-n-y-f-a-n-s-dot com. Okay and then -
Gerald: Hang on, hang on. Okay there hit football.
Me: Just look for titles like "UAB Game thread" or "We did it" or "Well that sucked".
Gerald: Oh - my - god. SMU won!
Me: OH YEAH BABY!!!! How'd they do it? How'd they do it?
Gerald: I don't know! I don't Know. It just says "Touchdown SMU" in game thread!!!
Me: HELL.... YEAH!
At that point I hand the phone to LF68 and stand up and chant S-M-U over again... at a hockey game.
I watched the game as soon as I returned to Austin. Amazing. Just amazing.
(I later appologized to my buddy for being such a jerk to him by constantly demanding him to refresh his browser. And thanked him for giving up a portion of his night to help keep me informed.)
Oh, and ESPN.com finally did refresh their scoreboard. A couple minutes later.

I am right there with ya dude! I could be at a National game with #1 vs #2, and I would be sweating, worrying about the Stangs!

That game I will never forget.
Of course I was doing the game thread..and was thinking another blown chance for an SMU upset victory. Romo had played pretty good that day, not that good but not near as bad as I thought he was going to.
The UAB guys were pretty much homers from the offset, which I would expect them to be, but omg. I never thought what would happen...would. I was standing on the last play looking at the screen...pushed my chair away just incase, and thank God I did.
When Chase caught the ball...I freaked and fell to the ground screaming. Called everyone that wouldn't care if we won and screamed at them all the while I was posting and watching the game.
O Man...I love SMU Football.

I'm glad you do. How did that happen, BTW? I've said it before, and I'll say it again, your passion for SMU football reminds me of myself at your age, and I love it!
And yeah, as I was typing this post I went back and found the game thread:

Thanks for beating ESPN, and saving me more stress

Thats funny...right after I left this thread yesterday, I went back and looked at the game thread. LOL Greatness.
How did my "love" for SMU happen? Well my entire family on my mom's side has gone there. Except for one of my uncles who went to SFA.

It's kind of funny...I read the game thread last night as well when I saw this post (which Mustangs35 was kind enough to link me to in IM) and the post that I loved the most was the one directly after all the delirious postings, which states simply "did we win."

I wonder where Stallion's thoughts are on this thread. I would expect him to post something about a quarterback and wide receiver that nobody recruited that made the play.

I am forever indebted to Mustang35 for his updates on that game. I was glued to the game thread stressing out and thought we had lost another one.

This still brings back great memories of sitting in a small hotel room in Lausanne, Switzerland. I had the laptop on the bed and fell asleep around halftime. All I know was that I wake up to Rich Phillips screaming and hearing Rich! Rich! Rich! Touchdown! It was around 4am for me and I could not go back to sleep after screaming S-M-U a few times and I am sure I woke up a few Frogs(not the purple kind, but a Frog is a Frog in my book). Then I must have listened to the audio over and over again. Just wished I had a few Mustang Mania stickers to slap on the IOC museum that I visited later that day.

Nice. I was wondering because you never mention things like "my dad was thrilled", or somesuch... and you've mentioned that your brother goes to UT.
And BrianTinBigD - nice story! Lausanne is one of my favorite towns in one of my favorite countries to visit. Classic.
Go Ponies,

Yea...the father understands what SMU goes through though...he went to Kentucky. But atleast he gets a team in basketball eh? 98 was awesome for him..cause not only did the 'Cats reach the Final Four...but the Final Four was in San Antonio that year. So we got to go down and cheer for UK and see them win their 7th National Basketball Title.
