CUSA is a good place for SMU. I just wish SMU could be good in the CUSA.

Who is our main competition in the West? Houston? UTEP? Tulsa? All three? We have to beat at least two of these three plus Arkansas State, North Texas and Sam Houston State to have any kind of chance of being in the hunt for the CUSA Championship. Is the Championship played at a neutral site or at the home field of the team with the best record?

Uhh, why do our non-conference games have any bearing at all on our conference championship fantasies?
Although you're close. That d-2 game is a must win. We should put all of our focus on not losing that game....

Good point. Beating weaker non-conference competition has no bearing on how we fare in CUSA West, but we'll need those W's if we have any hope of landing in a bowl game.

To get into the conference championship, we're going to have to win atleast 5 of our CUSA games.
We were 4-4 last year, and we were one win away from going to the CUSA Championship (had we beaten Tulsa).
We beat Tulsa, Houston, and UTEP (which I don't think will happen) and we're in good shape for that.
Personally, I would be happy with a bowl game. Baby steps is how I see this.
6-6, maybe 7-5 in 206

Texas Football projects SMU as having a 6-6 or 7-5 record this year. I think we will go 3-1 in NC, and hope we go 4-4 in CUSA. TF says Rice is our BIG game of the year. The Owls have changed coaches, so there is no way to tell what they will be like by the end of te seaosn when we play them. Personaly, I don't think Rice has the personnel to change to a passing offense yet, so we ought to have the advantage against them.
