2 months and counting......til the 2006 SMU football season begins on Sept. 2 in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. GO MUSTANGS!
The summer lullI'm glad someone has begun a countdown to football season. The summer lull is getting tiresome. Maybe we need some outside flame artist to attack our website to stir up interest. We could always visit our rivals' boards and leave pithy messages like "Woe to the Tech Bedwetters" or "Down with the Texas Ticks." Never mind.
Sam I Am
The last time we went out to Lubbock we got beat 58-10. So maybe we should just show up ready to play and keep our mouth shut. Remember last year after beating TCU, Coach PB talked about beating the Aggies at College Station before the game in the DMN. Needless to say we had A$M's attention. I hope they think they have no reason to worry about us.
I hope Tech thinks that, too.
But I don't have any problem with Coach Bennett sounding optimistic -- better than hearing him say "we're going to get smoked this weekend, so I don't see why we're even going to show up." If that was his attitude, we might have forfeited the Froggy High game last year.
We have played Tech two good games in Dallas with Coach PB in charge and I certainly want the Coaches to come up with a game plan the team can believe in. They need to be focused on playing hard the whole game and not thinking about a bunch of hype before the game, which means nothing if you loose. I do agree it is great to fire up the team just not the Dallas or Lubbock press. Lubbock is a hard place to play and our guys need to be ready to have a chance. BUT it has happened before since DP as we beat ARKANSAS three years in a row in 1995,1996,and1997 with 97 being our only winning season since DP. I do think our program in starting to turn around with AD Orsini's leadership. The attitude is changing and man I'm I glad to see that. Hopefully, people will show up for games.
I think I've mentioned this before, but from TTech's perspective it did happen before. When I still lived in Dallas...must've been 96? TTech lost their home opener to NTSU. The next week, I believe, NTSU had a$m at Texas Stadium...and promptly p*ssed down their leg an opportunity to grab some real attention and momentum. Hell I'm apathetic at best toward NTSU, but I was at least curious as to the the outcome of the a$m game.
