post DP??? A "mini corner turn", 1990, 2nd. year back..we open with Vandy and look like the best team EVER, with a perfect 44-7 win, I "buy in" and head down to New Orleans where we get our clocks cleaned, 7-43....Ponies go 2-20 next two seasons...1992!!! 5-6 with wins over NTSU, New Mexico, and a SWC losing streak stoppage with a W over tcu, wins over UH, avenging the 95-21 game, and a juicy W over the hogs, we have "turned the corner" claims TR and others, but, that 5-6 seasons gets us 4-26-3 over the next 3 seasons, "yeah, but we tied a$m....", anyway.....1996...5-6 again, with W's over Tulsa, the Hogs, and NM / UTEP / tcu, finish the season winning 3 of last 4..Cavan comes in, we go 6-5 (but lose to tcu in last game, causing me to cancel my hotel reservations in Alabama..sucker)..but 11-11.."corner turned, again!!"...well, you know the story, 5-7, 4-6, etc....NEW COACH!!! Corner Turned......What?, are we on Corner Turned Chapter IV?? This is why I will wait until much later top make season predict claims and corner turned claims..........BEAT TECH!!, or at least don't drop the opening kick-off.

Turning the corner four times gets you back where you started.

I think the thing is that SMU has had a couple of years in which the team legitamately overachieved, but it was commonly mistaken for "turning the corner" at the time. The 92 example was more overachieving with a group of seniors who could not be replaced in terms of experience and the things they went through. We have never consistently recruited big, fast D-1 type guys. I dont know if we have turned the corner now, but I do like having alot of returning starters from a team that overachieved last year. Your point is a good one, will this group step forward or step back? biggest challenge i see is a redshirt freshman qb who has never taken a college snap. Not exactly how most good seasons start.

a better Title to this post should be "How Many More Times Will we Have to See MemphisMustang Change His Handle?" No one on this board uses more words to say absolutely nothing better than Memphis Mustang aka Hixson to Levias and now obviously FordtoTolbert. We'll all look forward to many more posts with absolutely no useful information in the future under this new handle.

Turning the corner??

Last year, we had the talent, coaching and effort to BEAT that 9th ranked team in the nation.

Luck? Down week? Overlooked?

I really do not care.

We turned the corner when we ( sorry I am emotionally involved with SMU ) beat a very good team. That IS turning the corner.

Go Mustangs... I am saving money as I write, to pay for the Bowl Game trip.

Sunshine, on my shoulder, make me happy.

You are really reaching if you call a one game winning streak against Vandy "Turning a corner" Hell, a one game winning streak against anyone ain't no corner turn. You might have glanced to the left a little. Maybe.

I'm afraid the frog is right, beating them once isnt turning the corner, not when you get your head handed to you by A$M the next week and follow that up by getting manhandled by a Tulane team that was practically homeless. Tulane didnt win another game all year, they even lost to Rice, but they shoved the Mustangs around all over the field. Teams that have "turned the corner" dont allow that to happen. When you can get a quality win, and never go back to the way you flopped before, then you've turned the corner.
