Ben Pointer (forgive me if I spelled his last name wrong) was on Channel 8 news tonight. Dale Hanson spoke about what a good influence Bennett is for the team by emphasizing community service and giving back to others. Pointer has been volunteering since his public service obligation was up 3 years ago. And, he said since he's on scholarship, he has more time to give back to the community. What a great young man! And Coach Bennett is a good role model, too.

Well said. Poynter (both of them, actually) is a fantastic young man, and couldn't learn from a better man than Coach B!

Very nice story on another Mustang about whom we all can be proud. Good job, Ben.

on SMU Football Blog's site, he comments that the SMU SID should have given advance notice of the story about Ben Poynter. I sent an email to Brad Sutton. Here's his reply:

Thanks for your e-mail. When a story is going to air, I try and post it on SMUMustangs.com or on PonyFans. The story on Ben, though, presented a problem in that, when they filmed it, they weren't sure when it was going to run. Since I wasn't sure and didn't want to post erroneous info, I just waited and then linked the story up on the site after it had run. That way everyone can see it.
