Football walk-on

Postby SMUguy » Fri Jul 28, 2006 10:13 am

Found out the name of a walk-on: Pace Doherty of Houston (St. John's). From the little I've found about him, he has played both quarterback and wide receiver. No idea what he's going to play at SMU.

...
"Hit it."

He threw a 75-yd. TD pass and made a 77-yd. TD run and a 45-yd. TD run in a game last year against Houston Christian High School.

His full name is Lawrence Pace Doherty.

Who was the last walk-on (besides any kickers) who had a big impact on our team?

Yup -- walked on at 240 pounds or something, and worked his way up to whatever he is now (290?) Earned a scholarship after his first year. A year later, his cousin (Tommy) did the same thing. Since Tommy Poynter is projected as the starter at left guard, I guess that makes him the most recent walk-on to make an impact.

Foster was great. Remember that first game when he caught four or five passes, and everyone was scrambling for a program trying to figure out who the hell #28 was? Turned out to be a pretty solid receiver.
