He was going to be redshirted next year...this isn't like Justin Willis is hurt. Worst case scenario, he just watches instead of occasionally running the scout team

Lets hope this isn't the start of the death penalty curse.....As a cub fan I understand how this works and I am preparing myself for anything this year, even though I have already made bowl reservations.

Let's look at the sunshine. We got a story in the DMN AND a new candidate for Tight End.

This is why none of the studs play in this game anymore. It used to be a good way for the incoming freshmen to get in football shape before fall drills. Now with most of the kids on campus for at least the second summer session working with the strength guys, it isn't necessary.

A good friend's son told his college coach several years ago he was going to play in this game and the coach said fine, but if you get hurt, you are history with my program............

Doesn't matter. If Rhodes got on the field this year, that would have meant we were down to our third or fourth quarterback, and Justin Willis, Corey Slater and perhaps Eric Johnson all either were hugely ineffective (and they'd have to be awful to go to a true freshman) or hurt. Either way, the season would be lost by that point. I hope Rhodes is as talented and as great an athlete as advertised. But when Coach Bennett says he wants to redshirt all freshmen, that starts with quarterbacks. Rest assured, Coach Bennett already has Logan Turner and Terrance Wilkerson down on next year's redshirt list.

Whether or not surgery is needed, let's get Rhodes healthy first. Watch practice every day, inhale the playbook and stay awake in meetings and film sessions. Come out next year, and compete for the job. But get that shoulder healthy first.

If only they had let the Billy Goat stay to watch that World Series game.
