What would it take to revive the Mustang marketing machine?Wins are the obvious answer. With a few breaks this year I could see us being the darlings of local media coverage as well as some national press. Would any of the usual suspects (Dickerson, James, Meredith, Levias) come out of the wordwork to promote the program if that happens? I know that bandwagon fever can be contagious.
FYI, Levias has been out of the woodwork for a while, and has had a good relationship with the athletic department the last couple of years. He's attended a number of games, been on the Boulevard, attended local Mustang Club events, etc.
Heck, even some of our own alum Hollywood types (Kathy Bates, Patricia Richardson, Amy Acker, Lauren Graham, Stephen Tobolowsky, Paige Davis) could help by shooting commercials for football. Get recognizable faces out there for our program - similar to the NBA, "I love this game!" promotion that ran for years. There are certainly enough demographics covered by the aforementioned group. It might be hoakey, but it might be what we need - exposure!
Maybe we can get Dickerson to do some promo's..
"SMU.. Show me the Money!" Wait.. bad idea, scratch that.. ![]() What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
Get Bill Fagerbakke (Dauber Dybinski from "Coach") to do one of those promos, too! He went to SMU! Even funnier since Craig T. Nelson's character Hayden Fox was modeled after former SMU head football coach Hayden Fry!
