From someone who didn't make it down to Houston, how did our new DE look against the Owls?

He had 2 sacks and 6 tackles. That gives him 4 sacks in 2 games, which leads the team. He wasn't as effective against Rice as he was against La Tech because they don't use the pass as much. 2 sacks is quite impressive considering that the QB only dropped back to pass about 15 times the whole game.

Is it too late for him to make a run at WAC Defensive Player of the Year?

At his current rate of 2 sacks per game, Ieremia-Stansbury will finish the season with 10 sacks - which would tie him with Gary Nelson and Adam Voyles for the third-highest single-season total in school history (Luke Johnson has the record, with 11.5, and Victor Simon is second with 11 sacks).
Imagine what he'll do next year when he gets a full season of playing time.
Then again, he could accelerate his pace since he doesn't have to face any more option teams. Nevada, UTEP and Tulsa all throw the ball, so Ieremia-Stansbury will have plenty of chances to add to his total.
