Uh-Oh... QB Controversy

Corey Slater is making a push... which is good... but I don't want to see any platooning at the QB position at ANY time this season.

It would not be SMU football without a revolving door at quarterback.

Not so good is the fact that Slater's "push" coincides with Willis "not being at the level he was last spring," per the article.

It's only three friggin weeks away, guys! C'mon!

Good lord, pick one, and stay with him. Which was better: Eckert and Romo each "making a push" and rotating, or Just settling on Romo and winning games? Bennett needs to hire someone to deal with quarterbacks, and stay away from them.

I think this is just Bennett turning things up on Willis, so he doesn't get the big-head. I think Willis is still his guy, but he wants him to stay hungry.

Corey mentioned this when I spoke to him the Saturday before last. I thought it was typical wishful thinking and dismissed it. He said at the time that his understanding of the offense was at "80 percent."

This certainly is a surprise and, like mr. pony, I'm not sure that it wasn't intended to light a fire under Willis. Everything we've heard since almost December is that Justin's the man.

It was the kidney stones talking. Ouch.

Good god! The man needs to stay away from QB's. I might just snap if we start swapping QB's again. As long as Willis can play, let him play.

Whichever QB Bennett picks will be the wrong Choice.

Two thoughts:

First, what does it matter since you think they both suck?

Second, quit pussyfooting around and say that Phil Bennett should be fired, already.

Come on guys! This is Bennett lighting a fire under the backside of a guy that has been named the starter since December! Willis will respond. Competition is healthy!

For the love of Pete, can we please not jump off the deep end with this. We should pay attention to more what Bennett didn't say. He didn't say Willis had lost his job. He didn't say Slater was the starter.

Like the earlier post noted, we've seen this act many times before where the head coach is using the media to send a message. He is saying to his starter to get his act in gear. Plus, we don't know how the two played in the scrimmage. Or at least I didn't.

Give Bennett a little credit, I think he realized that when he was forced to stick with Romo, the season went better. Of course, the best thing that happened to us last season is when Eckert was lost for the season.

The QB position is a rhythm position, and you cannot have stability there by rotating people. And if Bennet truly is letting his coaches do more coaching than before, he's going to defer to Rusty Burns on this.

Relax. No. 16 will take the first snap on Sept. 2 in Lubbock.

It's mid-August, and we're all looking for something to talk about. Somebody needs to ask him about it at the luncheon on Wednesday.

Look, you can get all wound up about rivals stars and 40 times, but how can this comment be construed as anything other bashing of our coach and our team? There is nothing in that comment that can be construed as even remotely positive. Usually your pithy comments are just obnoxious, but at least they often have a hint of merit. You're now bordering on Horned Frog status.
