So I was surfing ESPN.com today...

... and end up going to SMU's "Club House" which isn't great and pretty much like it was last year (and the year before that and the year before that). I just wanted to see if there was some content I had missed... basically dying for football here. So I noticed an article by the name of "Three things to watch for in Conference USA" by Ivan Maisel and Pat Forde... it was an article dated May 4th... in my narcissistic PonyFan manner I was checking to confirm my suspicion that it would not include SMU. I was wrong -

Now I am sure that Maisel's words were posted here oh so many months ago. And heck, I might have even posted it myself - I doubt it, because I remember reading what he said, I didn't remember it in context. It's nice that there are folks nationally taking an interest. Albeit small.

Go Mustangs.

For those who missed it:

"It has been 19 years since SMU suffered the death penalty, and never in that time have the Mustangs been so close to breaking through to success. An offense that scored more than 21 points only twice in the first nine games averaged 32 points per game in a three-game winning streak to close a 5-6 season. False hope? Is Phil Bennett's SMU team for real?"

Dear Santa: All I want for Christmas is for SMU to defeat Texas Tech in Lubbock, have a winning season and go to a post-season bowl game. Is that asking too much? I've left a nice beverage on the coffee table for you along with some cookies. Enjoy. - Signed, MM65

Put a little bourbon/peruna punch in that beverage and we might have a deal.
