Any good ionformation comeout?
How is Orsini at speaking? What was the message? How is the practice facility doing?
Thank you.
Mixer was good although hotter n' hell in the ballroom they used! Whew! Air conditioner couldn't accomodate the crowd, I guess.
Rampola spoke first and recognized her staff. Spoke about traveling around the state during similar 'happy hours' in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, etc. Some humor thrown in talking about Bennett & Doherty on these trips, too.
Doherty spoke about what he expects to accomplish at SMU. Calls SMU the "Duke of Dallas". Announced that Bamba is now academically eligible for the fall season. Spoke about what he wants to accomplish at SMU...put the Mustangs in the Top 25. Announced that Jon Koncak will be the keynote speaker at the bball tip-off luncheon.
Bennett spoke about the upcoming season (repeat of similar message last week at the kick-off luncheon) and thanked everyone who was present yesterday for attending that, too. Said the players are 'pumped' after the show of support from last week and that this team is ready. Mentioned Doherty coming to talk to the team during practice. Hopes the Mustangs can 'take a knee' in Lubbock next week to win. Said he now knows more about plantar warts and kidney stones than he ever thought he would!
Orsini spoke about how he and his family were ready to move to Dallas and take on the job of bringing SMU athletics into the Top 25 in all sports. Urged those in attendance to bring friends/family to all games this year involving SMU teams. Said he's always welcome to ideas that will help and support SMU athletics and that he looks forward to meeting more SMU fans in the coming months.
During the course of the evening, other SMU coaches were introduced from soccer, tennis and swimming teams.
Food was good. Especially the Swedish meatballs. Yum! However, the 'cash bar' sucked...only had domestic light beer! And the ticket table was on the OTHER SIDE of the room from the bar so you had to wade thru the crowd. Ticket table needs to be right next to the bar or at least within a few feet on the same side of the room.
