I believe all 4 were walk-ons although K. J. Ellis was a legitimate Division 1A prospect that had his offers dry up late in the recruiting season. The word on the Aggise board is that Kennemer had family that were Aggies so they paid his tuition but that he may have had offers from SMU-I saw Iowa St and I saw TCU. Kennemer was Second Team All-DFW in Rivals Texas Prep X-Tra but I don't believe he was in their recruiting base.
I guess his bio already reported Kennemer was the 7-5A Defensive Player of the Year in a very tough district but he was also a member of the "great" Max Emfinger's All-American Bowl. King Max had a report stating he was impressive in workouts for that game. He sounds kike he might be an asset. How many of these guys are getting scholarships.
also Rush Hughes is a solid walk-on who was hurt his senior year with an ACL. He wasn't the swiftest LB before his injury as was verified at a camp at 4.91. He might need to bulk up and play in the line if that's accurate.
A day or two ago there was a DMN report that the squad numbered 127 including scholies and walk-ons and I suppose grey shirts and transfers.
Can some one reconcile the numbers? I suppose there are some walk-ons from last year who still practice?
well I can tell you that a team is only allowed to have 105 or so-can't remember the exact number-show up for the START of fall practice in early August-essentially all scholarship players and preferred walkons. The rest can't report until the first day of class so that's probably the reason for the release now.
Hughes had offers before getting hurt, didn't he? And he has one of the greatest football names in history.
Shaun Moore from Lake Forest, IL follows the tradition of the great Lake Forest walk-on Josh Lerner we had in the 90's. I think Josh is coaching at LF, so good for him steering the kid our way. I'm sure the kid will have great hands and have a great attitude.
