It is probably just "coach-speak" a few days before the game, and Leach is using it as a way to make sure his players aren't looking a couple of weeks ahead to TCU and UTEP. I'm not buying it, but its interesting nonetheless.
Tech's Leach thinks team acting complacent

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech coach Mike Leach called his team "soft" and "complacent" Monday, and the season opener was still five days away.
Leach apparently is fed up with numerous players sitting out preseason drills because of minor injuries and with players losing focus on the practice field.
"I'm seeing a level of softness a little bit," Leach said during his weekly news conference. "I think we have a handful of guys that are complacent, a handful of guys that feel like they worked hard in the off-season so business is taken care of. All the other teams work hard in the off-season, too, so all you are is equal to them."
Leach did say he has the best group of team captains he's ever had at Tech, but not everyone has followed the captains' example.
Senior receiver Joel Filani didn't seem fazed by Leach's comments. He vowed that the Red Raiders would play tough in Saturday's opener against SMU.
"I don't really know where he's getting that from, but if you know Coach Leach, you know he's always got something to say about something," Filani said. "We don't feel we're soft at all."
