Both QB's to See Action

I noticed in the DMN that Bennett intends for both QB's to see action in the first half on Saturday, but promises that we won't have revolving QB's. Part of me believes that he is trying to make sure that his backup has some Division 1 reps, the other part of me thinks that he still likes to rotate QB's. I guess we'll see what happens on Saturday.

Hopefully he doesn't go in at all unless Willis faulters. He can get reps vs. UNT and SHSU

I believe that this will only happen if we are getting beat badly or if J. Willis is having problems performing. If we are staying close and J. Willis is performing, there's no way PB is going to take him out.

...unless, of course, there are still some complications with the wart.

I agree. He said yesterday that he wants to get Slater some snaps in the first half. But if Willis is guiding the offense effectively, I would expect he'll stay in the game.

Whichever one is not playing QB at the time can play TE.

we are VERY DEEP at TE. I feel great knowing that if we get 4 injuries at TE then we've got some more kids that can do the job-without warts.

I don't understand why this is controversial. Neither guy has taken a snap at the Division I level. I read this as an indication the competition for playing time has been pretty close, which is a good thing considering how much we dropped off between # 1 and # 2 last year. Why not run a possession or two and then be with the coaches for some sideline counseling while the other guy gets some snaps? If Willis (or Slater) lights it up and surprises everyone, he stays in...but let's try to look at this realistically..these guys are likely to stumble in this game and a little extra tutoring in between possessions may not be a bad thing. If the competition is close in practice, let's see who might be the "gamer" and earn the starting job for UNT.

I don't think this is about determining who the starter should be. Willis is the starter. This is more about using non-conference games so that when conference play starts we have two QBs with game experience. Right now we have zero.

Willis needs all the experience he can get.

I totally agree with Blog...and respectfully disagree with you guys. If it happens in this game, he'll keep doing it like he's done it before which isn't good for anyone.

I agree, but what happens if Willis plays every snap of the first five games and then gets hurt in the UTEP game? We are back where we started the season - no QBs with any game experience. If that were to happen, care to guess how many people would be on this site saying PB should have given both QBs playing time so that we would be in better shape in case of an injury.

Let's just hope that Willis doesn't give any reason to come out of the game. If Slater plays it will be because we are getting killed.

I hope that we do play both QBs before September is over. I think, however, that any switching during the TT game will be to avoid injuries when we are completely out of the game. If we keep it close, I expect to see Willis in there. PB needs to show faith in the QB.

Leave the playing of both QBs for games where we will likely be in a position for a "sure" win.

Slater at least played JuCo ball last year. Willis didn't play competitive ball at all last year.

It also worries me because now I wonder what the snaps are at practice. Willis needs the vast majority of snaps in practice and the vast majority of snaps in games. Anything else suggests Bennett is unsure. Yes, I understand that neither kid has shown Bennett anything in a game. I don't blame Bennett for being unsure. If Bennett is second-guessing himself, I guarantee you we will be second-guessing him, too. Willis won the job; let him lose it.
