Uh...OK, What?

I'm watching the Miami/Florida State Game right now on ESPN and they just went down to the sideline to talk to Edgerrin James about his former alma mater (Miami). Well, the token sideline TV chick asks him, "How do you respond to those who say Miami has lost its swagger?" He responds something like, "Blah, blah, blah...well, I'm glad they are saying that, 'cuz its giving me a lot of bets and I'm making a lot of money tonight."

WTF? Have they changed the rules to allow NFL players to bet on sports???Anyone? Did he just put his foot in his mouth?

I believe it's OK for pro players to bet on college sports. If not, it will be spun as a euphamism for bragging rights, etc.

Either way, I'm with you. Didn't look good.

I think he was referring to the "3 years and out" policy/reality that Miami players have been lately - 3 years in college and then out ot the NFL -- NOT the 3 and out Miami defense (because he was talking about having to 'replace' players at Miami now).

The money he was making 'tonight' was his NFL salary--thanks to the 3 and out Miami opportunity

Yeah, I thought about the "I just meant I would have bragging rights" excuse, but didn't you get the impression from the way he said it, that he was indeed betting some cash on the game? :)

I don't know what was worse - Edjin James dialect (was he speaking Engrish?) or the TV Announcer's comments about the 'respect' he had for E.J. for "keeping it real" by continuing to wear the gold teeph's

What, you're not buying into the comment that James is such a good person for turning down all that money just to keep his grill and his dreads? C'Mon, a man has to stand for something.

Where's the swagger now, Miami? So glad that FSU won again by a FG. They might eventually even out the Miami games won & lost by the kicker.
