UNIVERSITY PARK – Tony Hawkins recorded seven tackles, including 11/2 for losses, in his debut at rover Saturday against Texas Tech. But coach Phil Bennett said Hawkins was just average and expects a better performance this week against North Texas.

The last two days in practice, the defensive coaches have gotten on Hawkins about not being in the right positions on the field.

I watched the Red Raider Review show this week so that I could see highlights of the game.

It seemed to me that on a lot of the plays that hurt us involving Robert Johnson, he came from Hawkins' side of the field. Either Carrington or Goode would end up covering him and getting beat. A lot of the plays, it was Goode who was trailing Johnson by a considerable margin.

I wonder whose breakdown that was? Was Goode just trying to cover for Hawkins not playing in his space in the zone, or did Goode get toasted?

It was a show on Fox Sports Southwest this week. I saw it and Tivo'd it, I think it comes on again at some point this week.
