Yep, we beat them in '92, but our only trip to Denton was a miserable one. I was there (as I'm sure some of you were) and remember it well.
Oct. 6, 1990: SMU at North Texas
It was a memorable night when SMU became the first Southwest Conference team to play at Fouts Field. The excitement level was at a fever pitch when the game kicked off before the only sell-out in Fouts Field history as an overflow crowd of 22,750 was there to witness the battle. The Mean Green jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on the Mustangs when quarterback Scott Davis scored from four yards out. SMU tied the game up early in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown pass from Mike Romo to Jason Wolfe. The game remained knotted at 7-7 until late in the third quarter when the Mean Green scored what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown as Davis scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from four yards out. He ended the game with 202 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The crowd of 22,750 remains the third largest to see a game at Fouts Field.

That's pretty sad. What's the capacity there?

I also believe that we had a bench clearing fight at half time that night. Lets hope that we don't do that again.

The capacity is 30,500. The NTSU athletics site is predicting a near-sellout.

Geez...I hope we have enough fans there to give the team some support. I'd go this weekend if I could, but I can't. (I'll be there next weekend to watch the SHSU game, though.)
We better not flub this thing up this weekend.

Anybody have any firsthand knowledge about how pumped the team is for this game? We need a blowout if possible for this one!

At the last TCU game we played in FW, when we lost 44-0, I was there along with I would guess less than 1,500 other SMU fans, not counting the band, etc.
I sincerely doubt that we can't expect that many to show up in Denton to see our new rival wannabes.

It was announced at the Lettermen's Board meeting Thursday night that SMU had sold ALL of it's ticket allotment.

Back then the capacity was much smaller. This must have been SRO. Only when they jumped to Div-1a did they enlarge the stadium.

why is north texas so interested in smu? I guess its flattering in a way. Most of the world treats us with indifference these days. It is a little weird though.

I was at that game too, at the time North Texas was going through our exile when we dropped to 1-AA. Fouts capacity then was 20,000. (The same as Owenby when you guys made the return) The fire marshal showed up and started turning people away from the gate it was so crowded. When we made the return to 1-A football Fouts was expanded to add 10,000 bad seats in the endzones. A lot of UNT fans will be happy when we finally open up the new stadium

UNT is interested in SMU because we should be natural rivals. Along with TCU , the three schools should compete every year in a Metroplex Challenge series.

Guess we'll still have to wait to remove the blemish, and we've added a wart to boot!
