Gerry Fraley (some on this baord like to call him names) hit it on the head when he started the debate - in his column - as to whether Saturday's debacle could be considered the worst loss in program history. While there are plenty of "bad losses" in the past, this definitely was a pantheon game. A pantheon of suck.
The three things I feared would happen happened. First, we overlooked a much hungrier UNT team (but that was not nearly as much of a problem as I imagined it would be), second we pulled our QB AFTER a mistake (now even if you want to get a backup some reps do not put him in right after the starter makes a mistake, as you have just turned your starter into a basket case), and lastly we relied on the same unimaginative play calling we used the week before in Lubbock. And that was the back breaker. That was what really disheartened me. Seriously, we should have gone in with a "just how many points can we score?" mentality, instead we came in with the "limit mistakes/play not to lose" mentality... which we all know is a loser mentality.
This loss was beyond ridiculous. There's not even a sunshiner silver lining to it. No "yeah but"s.... nothing.
Just when you finally decide that this is going to be the year - I mean I've gone the last ten seasons saying, "well this year we're probably going to have a losin record, BUT next year..." - and now this? Grab your boards, surfs up on the wave of SMU football depression.
