Farewell to the noblest of Mustangs

I read where Vic Viloria is done, that his shoulder injury won't allow him to play his final game at SMU.

Vic has done us all proud during his playing career at SMU. He's always been fundamentally sound, and he's been the heart and soul of the defense, taking on all blockers, most of whom are much larger than he is, and playing through injuries time after time.

I haven't been around SMU forever, but Vic belongs on the list of great Mustang LBs like Chris Bordano, Craig Swann, Bill Keily and Jason Simonton.

Thanks for everything you've given to the program, Vic. Good luck in the NFL. (I know you'll make it - you're better than Dat Nguyen.)

Ok Silk,
I agree that it is unfortunate that Vic will be unable to play his final game, and I agree that he is obviously one of the best linebackers that has been through SMU.
But I see no way, at all, how you could compare him to Dat. Vic was one hell of a linebacker in the WAC, but I see no way for him to have had the success that he did if he played in the BIG XII. Again, no disrespect to Viloria, I just dont think Vic should be placed over Dat.

Maybe not better, but I'd have to go with Silk and say he's just as good. They both were "too small" when they went to college, but remember, Auburn wanted Viloria bad - they tried everything they could to get him after he already had committed to SMU. And if he could have played in the SEC, as the Auburn coaches seemed to think, he sure could have played in the Big 12.

Hey, I love the Ponies and the Cowboys - and I say they're an even push. I only hope Vic's shoulder heals up and that he can add a few more pounds of muscle so he gets a shot in the NFL.

TechSan11,

Not so fast. Do a little research and find out who led the SWC conference in tackles its final year of existence in 1995. And no, it was not your Zach Thomas.

Vic would have been all-conference no matter what league he played in!! He is definitely better than the highly overrated Flugence.

OK,
I DONT BELIEVE THAT THOMAS OR FLUGENCE WERE THE TOPIC OF ANY OF THE PREVIOUS POSTS, BUT THATS FINE, WE ARE ALL PARTIAL TO OUR OWN PLAYERS.
GOOD LUCK VS. TULSA

His career ends with 372 tackles. I'll gladly take that from any SMU defender.
Thanks for a terrific career, Vic.
