Anyone want to volunteer to play running back this weekend?

I would imagine Dorsey and Mapps can handle it if the line blocks.

Is Turner really not going to play on Saturday? If so, why?

What's with the cryptic post with no explanation?

He probably meant Martin and Fitz. I have no idea since I am not in the injury loop. But I still say, as long as the line blocks we should be fine with whomever is available at RB.

I hope I hope I hope we get to see Henderson with the ball. Imagine him flying through a hole.. he's a huge threat because of his speed!

With henderson in, I can see the sweep to the outside being relevant. I could also see the pistol option run with him as well. Though I would like to say that I am not a big pistol offense fan. Don't think anyone would catch Henderson like they did Turner.

Options at RB continue to decrease

12:22 AM CDT on Friday, September 22, 2006

By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News

UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU is running out of running backs.

Junior Fred Turner, who rushed for 104 yards against Sam Houston State, will not play Saturday against Arkansas State because of strained abdominal muscles. Turner was injured during practice Tuesday.

Coach Phil Bennett said Thursday that senior Johnnie Fitzgerald (high ankle sprain) is questionable, a downgrade from Wednesday when Bennett said Fitzgerald would probably play. Sophomore DeMyron Martin (foot) is already out.

That leaves junior Cedrick Dorsey, redshirt freshman James Mapps and sophomore kick returner Jessie Henderson, who has been getting a lot of carries in practice this week.

Agreed. If the ASU defense is as advertised -- fast, but prone to overpursuing -- his elusive style might prove effective. Let's hope.

GO PONIES!
