Less Sledge and More Chase

Every time I looked checked the receivers on the field during the SHS game I saw Bobby Chase on the sideline and Zach Sledge in the game. Was chase not feeling well or did Burns once again forget that he is our most dependable receiver?

Zack Sledge is an American Hero. He should have a comic book with him as the main character touting his heroic American exploits.

yah chase didn't even start last week.. now I am not stupid, just b/c you don't start doesn't mean you can't get the majorit of the snaps.. but we came out w/ a 3-1 look (3 WR 1TE) and sledge was in for chase..

I'm not sure about the specifics of when each player was on and off the field, but for what it's worth, Sledge is one of the fastest handful of players on the entire roster. Get the ball in his hands, and he's more of a home run threat than Chase. With that said, Chase has to get more than one reception.

Willis was 18-19 for 300+ yards and 5 td's, albeit against a d-2 opponent. Why are y'all even concerned about any of this?

I spoke to Bobby's dad a number of times on Saturday. Apparently young Mr. Chase is in the coach's dog house.

I don't know if it has anything to do with anything, but I did notice Bobby drop quite a few passes in the fall scrimmage and the warmups to that scrimmage.

Doghouse or not, his paws still catch balls when it matters.
Dependable?

How is a reviever dependable when he drops more passes than he catches? Maybe the coaches figured that if they put sledge out on the line it would provide more speed... granted he is the fastest reciever on the team. I heard he was in the top 5 in testing in the offseason through strength and speed. I want to see the kid get the ball thrown his way because all he does is catch the ball. We need more recievers with hands like this kid. If you don't believe me than you obviously didn't watch the spring game or the scrimages during two adays. The best players should be on the field. Now if we have to throw up a hail mary put the big body of chase in and see if he can make another play. I'm absolutely angered by the post to take sledge off the field. Why blame the player for an idiotic screen across the middle on 3rd and 8. That sounds like a bad play call to me when there weren't any blockers in front of him. Get your facts straight or don't post on the board.

the guy simply does NOT make big plays. He has NEVER scored a TD and his average per catch over 2 years hovers around 8 yards per catch-those are historically among the smallest numbers for ANY SMU receiver in any year. Who cares if a guy drops a pass here or there-they all do-TO Owens and all the rest. You need players who score TDs and makes big plays. Its ridiculous to have Sledge play over Givens, Sanders OR Chase.

Zach Sledge is short, never open, and when he does catch a ball I can never remember when he broke a tackle or made a big play. Bobby Chase is our leading receiver over the last 2 years and also the back to back team Offensive MVP. Zach Sledge is a great practice player. It always amazes me that "Coach" can't actually see offensive talent. Whether it was ignoring Bobby his sophmore year, Martin last year, or Willis this year our coaching "eye" for offensive talent may need a trip to get some Laser eye surgery.

Maybe it is because of the routes they have him running. If memory serves me right, Zach has made a number of clutch catches when we needed them. No, they didn't go for a lot of yards, but they got us first downs when we needed them. He probably isn't going to be a glitzy player, but he is a work horse.
