The weather was good; SMU had won convincingly last week, and ASU was a respectable if not wildly popular opponent. Where were the people?

1. Sun Belt opponent,

2. 1-2 "here we go again" record going into the game

3. NTSU embarassment

4. Constant coverage in the morning news does not solve attendance woes, despite mr. pony and McClown suggestions to the contrary.

Never said media coverage alone would solve attendance woes.

It certainly doesn't hurt, though.

Covering the hometown team is the correct thing for any paper to do, regardless.

Lets not forget that Arkansas State didn't travel well at all. I'm guessing they brought somewhere between 300-500 fans

Then you throw in the amazing fact that the Texas Rangers, 12 games out of first, playing out a string of meaningless games, drew 28,000 a couple night ago.

We have 10,000-12,000 fans at SMU its been that way for awhile. Unless its Parents Weekend, Homecoming or the other team brings its own fans that is what it will continue to be. There was no more than 10,000 in the stands last Nite.

Win these next two on the road and I guaranty a packed house against Marshall.

Sorry Thad, but I just don't see that happening, even on a 4 game win streak. The average Dallas sports fan either doesn't know who Marshall is, or still thinks they are 1-AA. With a 4-2 record, we would be lucky to see 18,000 at that game. (which would still be better than before)

It's good to have a core of 10,000-12,000 people there every week. But the Ws will take care of that an attract the fringe fans. Even if we are in a bowl race, don't expect us surpass 20,000.

We need to build a track record. Keep in mind, TCU does outdraw us (mid to upper 20s consistently. But they just had their first sellout in 22 years.

Do you think we'll be able to sell out or come close to selling out the Tues. night game on ESPN2? Its going to be embarrassing if were on national television with 10,000 empty seats.

I would guess there will be more than 10k empty seats. A lot of us out of town folks won't be in attendance. If it was on a weekend, we'd be there. Especially for national TV.
