WAC Expansion

I'm looking forward to the WAC presidents meeting in June. I think Commisioner Benson will propose expanding the WAC to 12 schools. By adding New Mexico State to the East and Utah State to the west, we can enhance regional play and cut travel costs significantly. I think this is a good idea. What do the rest of you think?

I would have to say I am in favor of expanding the WAC. It gives us two more quality teams and, like you said, cut our travel cost significantly. It is ridiculous to have to travel to Hawaii every other year. I must say, I wish the two expansion teams were bigger names than they are, but it is a start. I also must say that I am excited about La. Tech entering the confrence, I think they will be a super addition.

We already have good rivalries going with Tulsa and Rice. I'm looking forward to developing strong rivalries with Louisiana Tech, UTEP and New Mexico State as well. Image

I had always thought that our days in the WAC were numbered, BUT

if we do not invite Portland St, Arkansas State, NTSU, or others on that caliber

AND

if the current members (esp Tulsa, Hawaii, & Fresno St) do not leave

then I think that we could develope a good football league to go with an already decent basketball league. I do think that LaTech will be a nice addition. I'm just don't know enough about the others to be sure. Utah St did make the NCAA BB Tourney.

That right! The other two teams may not be football powerhouses, but they may excell at other sports. Like you, I know far too little on those two teams. I am really excited about Louisiana Tech. I think they are a good team and they play some great teams. They will be a great addition to our confrence.

The reduced travel cost and the ability to travel to away games is very interesting. Also would open up some good dates for Out Of Conference games - I THINK -

BUS - this would give us 5 regional games, 3 conference games with West opponents, and 3 non conference games. Las Cruces would be our furthest regional game and it is within driving distance. Or a short SW Airlines flight away. We could caravan with your RV and tailgate along the way.

If the WAC expands are 3 games against the other region already determined? Why not 2 and 4 OOC games? Or one? Image

Nothing is already determined...but 3 games against the Western Division means you play all the teams home and away in four years. Every 4 years we would have 12 games thus 4 OOC games the year we go to Hawaii.

Apply to what? I'm scratching my head over what reason you could possibly have for necro'ing an 8 year old thread?

Possibly, in anticipation of the eventual loss

of Boise State and Fresno State to the MWC.
