Nice Win But.............

Can Rusty Burns please get up in the box so he can see the field!!?? Our offense looks like a sandlot game. I keep waiting to see Willis draw a play on the chest of the receiver with his finger.

The reason we were shredded in the 2nd half is Tulane DOES have coaches in the box who can make adjustments at halftime.

We still need a special teams coach! Yes, Jessie was amazing but we got lucky to escape with a win.

I know I am going to anger the sunshiners pointing out improvements after a win but Tulsa and Houston will slaughter us if we do not correct things.

Forget about Tulsa and Houston. Jordan Palmer will have no lips left at game time from licking them too much watching our secondary on film. If Tulane had caught half of the passes that were dropped, the outcome could have been different. Secondary needs some real growing up this week.

agree with mrydel. only heard the game by radio and happy to get the win, but have to wonder how many points tulane would have scored if they had been able to catch a pass in the first half.

UTEP is a scary game. They racked up nearly 500 yards of offense (I think) and killed themselves with turnovers last year. Yes, that was a beautiful win over the Miners last year, but you know they've had the SMU game circled on their calendars since the schedule was made. Jordan Palmer is extremely talented (Sporting News or Sports Illustrated -- I forget which -- has an article this week in which he's touted as the best QB on a non-BCS team in the country). The Ponies need to significantly reduce mistakes this week, needs to run the ball better (will DeMyron Martin be back this week?) and the defensive line needs to have another monster game against UTEP, like it did last year.

I spoke to DeMyron Martin after the Arkansas State game. He said he will most likely be back for the Marshall game, at the earliest.

Thought they were saying that he would be back next week vs UTEP? HMM. :x

Wishful thinking. It was UTEP at the earliest, ECU at the latest I believe.

IF, and it is a very big IF, we were to beat UTEP, I sure would consider a medical redshirt for Martin. We would have Marshall and UAB coming in at home giving a good opportunity to be bowl eligible by Halloween. If that were the case, I sure would hate to use him in the last part of the year. A loss to UTEP means get him back ASAP so he will be full speed for the last part of the season.

We really should have lost the Tulane game. Give them some catches in the first half, take away that stupid fake punt (although it nearly worked) we might have been looking at a L. We are going to have trouble if we don't learn how to defend the long pass. So far every game has been The Willis Show. What happens when a D finally learns how to slow him down? We don't seem to have much else going right now.

We should have lost? Christ.

If we should have lost that game, we would have lost. We didn't steal that game, they almost did. Any team that has -66 yards rushing, no matter who, should not win a football game. Our D-line dominated, our O-line dominated, we had the better running game, the better kicking/punting/return game and tackled better.

So, since they passed for more yards they should have won? Because that's all they had on us. We made more plays than they did, and we won that game.

Agree we don't need to beat ourselves up - any road win is a good win, and our run deense was solid - but i think it is a very legitamate fear going into UTEP that our offensive coordinator is still on a leash, attached to the one person he should not be getting offensive advice from.

Love Bennett , but don't want him suggesting plays, and I agree Burns is not helped by being down there - wonder what he thinks about it?

We dominated the game for 3 quarters and we should've lost? Sorry no.

This team does have something last years team or the teams before that didn't have...the heart to stay in the game and win it when faced with adversity.

Agreed. This is the first time in a long time that I am not surprised we won that game at the end.

Maybe our fans can take a lesson from this and not say they quit supporting the team after the NTSU fiasco and back them no matter what.
