I will have to take
SMU 34
UTEP 28
I believe, Tech aside, they have the most potent offense to date...but not one of the top defenses. We win the shootout because Palmer is a turnover machine, and Willis once again proves to be a dual threat on the air and on the ground.

SMU 28
UTEP 24
UTEP leads at half 21-14, then Palmer implodes in typical Palmer fashion resulting in a 14-3 SMU run.

SMU: 41
UTEP: 30
In a repeat of last year, UTEP produces 4 turnovers on three pics and a fumble. (Palmer averages 2 pics a game, so it isn't a stretch).
SMU's plays ball control and rolls up 190 yards on the ground with 4 scores, including a 4 yard broken play and scamper by Willis. Willis throws 19 of 25 for 198 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 pic. For the second week in a row, Jessie Henderson runs one back for the TD (2 pt conversion no good). SMU owns the 2nd and 3rd quarters, holding the ball on offense a ridiculous 23 Minutes.
SMU's pass rush sacks Palmer for 5 1/2 sacks. Goes out of the game in the 4th w/ concussion from...of all people, Brandon Bonds!
Like Tulane, UTEPs TDs come too little too late on big plays vs. SMUs secondary. They try to get back in it, but SMUs running game makes them pay in spades in a spectacular 18 play drive in the 3rd quarter.

34-31 Ponies
Tied 28 all going into OT, UTEP gets the ball first, ends with a FG, and then on the K/O
Henderson for the win.

there's no kickoffs in overtime therefore no henderson runback. but it will goto OT and Willis will throw a sick play action fade to sanders dragging his left toe in the corner of the endzone to win it, then Price intentionally puts the axe to his forehead in disgust

Had to take some time on this one.... I give the Ponies one chance in three to win the game. This being a thread on an SMU board, I will give my one chance in three prediction -
SMU 44
UTEP 43
Yes, it's going to be a high scoring affair if SMU is to win. And I sure as media-guide-covers-wah-wah-expletives hope they do.... win, I mean.

Miner: 45
Pony: 33
Miner wins a shootout because Pony plays prevent D from the second quarter to the 4th quarter.
With the exception of Sturdivant Pony's secondary blows and will lose more games this season.

SMU - 35
UTEP - 33
But only giving us a 1 in four chance to actually win. UTEP in the sunbowl is a pretty nasty pill to swallow
UTEP is the favorite at home

UTEP is sore about last year's game and is at home. Advantage Miners.
UTEP can pass very well & our secondary is vulnerable. Advantage Miners.
SMU is learning to use Willis better in every game. Advantage Ponies.
UTEP wins 2 to 1.

Both teams have a horrible secondary.
SMU stops the run better, has a better D-line, and (if healthy) has a better running game.
Martin is out, so the running game equalizes.
Redshirt frosh in the Sun Bowl is going to cause problems, and turns the tide in UTEP's favor, giving the advantage to Palmer and UTEP.
UTEP 38 - SMU 24.
This is one of 5 games against CUSA teams that have a secondary just as bad as we do. Going 3-2 in those games instead of 2-3 is the difference between going to a bowl and not.
