two superlative performances by these two seniors. Not sure if any SMU SS has ever made 16 tackles in one game. I know Putt Choate had something like 31 tackles in the last game in the Cotton Bowl before we moved to Texas Stadium but Sturdivant was all over the field and added an interception too. Haywood had an enormous 8 tackles too and pressured the QB on countless occassions. I really think their performances rallied the rest of the team. We are really going to miss these guys next year-both are the best we've had in the 20 years.
amazing performace by sturdivant and haywood

Don't forget a key forced fumble. He may not have gotten credit for his heroics but it was Joe STUDivant who made the play! Haywood is a monster who cannot be stopped!
It's too bad their heroics didn't pan into a win! GO STANGS!

probalby Bryce Hudman. K.J. Ellis might factor in as well.
Go look at Bryce Hudman, they messed up his roster page on smumustangs.com. They have him playing in "limited action" for Texas A & M last year, even though he was recruited by us out of high school. Wonder job there, SMU.

Actually, it says limited action at A&M, which one would assume to mean that he played at the game in College Station, not for A&M.

No they are talking about the walk-on who transferred to SMU from A&M this year-I forgot his name. Hudman came directly from High School to SMU. Its just a mistake.

They busted their [deleted] every minute.
Against Marshall, we need a couple of others (on both offense & defense) to step up & make plays against the Thundering Turd, er Herd.....

why is it a bad sign..Joe just is that smart and knows where to be..cause he watches so much tape.. especially since the miners throw alot it would be natural that Joe gets to the scene to lay it down.

Its always a bad sign for someone in your secondary to lead the team in tackles.
That means that the line isnt getting pressure and making holes for the LBs to make tackles. It also means that the opposing team is getting its runners into the 2nd and 3rd levels of the D.
I understand a LB leading the D with that many tackles but it is never good for a Safety to lead the team.
If I am correct, Joe led the team in tackles last year.

not just the team..our conference, the big 12's conference, and the WAC in tackles..
doesn't always mean the runners are getting that far..could mean they are passing alot..or joe reads the play quickly and comes up to the line.

So JT Supporta, you're saying we are not defensing the rush well enough, what is that statistic about our rush defense? 1st in conference?

A lot of Sturdivant's tackles are at or behind the line of scrimmage. He fills holes in the defensive scheme. What you do not want is your DBs making tackles 8 yards behind the LOS. That also happens too often to be good, but Sturdivant leads in tackles because of the filling of holes as the defense is designed. Sad to say that is why we got burned on the half back pass for the TD against utep. I am not sure it was Sturdivant's man, but he was closest to the receiver.
