10/31 -- The BOOlevard

I've heard that the Boulevard won't "open" until 3:30 for the UAB game. Can anyone confirm this? If so, that's total horse hockey.

Considering the access to the Boulevard closes three hours before the game, it does not seem conducive to creating that game day atmosphere they are trying to create.

It seems like SMU is missing the boat on what a marketing gold mine this game could be.

I cannot confirm or deny this allegation . . . but I would bet that you are right. SMU is known for missing the boat on great oppurtunities. Especially when the comes to the realm of college football.

what can they do to stop you? just have the campus police(or is it DPD on game day as well?) there to tell you to move your vehicle right??? so if I was to walk up with my cooler and tent and plant my self in the middle of the BLVD . . .could they stop me!?!?!?!

Yes, I think they can. If batons, handcuffs and tazers will stop you.

the BLVD will open as soon as all the tents and people within the tents are up and running.

In that case, the Blvd will be open at 9:00 am.

isn't that day a regular school day?

i assume they are trying to avoid
chaos as far as traffic/booze during
a normal school day at SMU?

maybe they could call off
school about noon that day?

I was told last week by some younger guys that classes would be cancelled in the afternoon, but not sure if they are reliable.

Attempts to get classes cancelled were not successful. There will be classes all day that day. "Officially" the Boulevard opens at 3:30 (stupid, stupid, decision but it is my understanding that this is not the AD's fault). Parking is going to be an issue. Noise is going to be an issue.

However, I mentioned that our tent would be up and running at it's normal time in the a.m. and asked whether that would be a problem, and I seemed to get the unofficial okay. I will be in costume and will be joining regis about 11:30.

And if they don't start marketing the "BOOlevard" to the DFW arean as a fun, safe place to bring the family on Halloween, I'm going to be upset.

I highly doubt that classes will be cancelled in the afternoon knowing how [deleted] this school can be when it comes to classes.

But no matter what, kids most likely wont show up to most of their classes because they will be to drunk to walk.

Nope, there is no official change to classes that Tuesday.

This is to verify that there will be NO CHANGE to the University's scheduled classes on Tuesday, October 31. A football game and surrounding activities scheduled for that evening has prompted some questions. Please be advised that there will be parking and traffic implications for late afternoon and night classes.

I got that as an email last week. The only way a class will be cancelled that afternoon is if a professor decides to cancel it on his/her own.

Thats what I thought, this school is totally stupid and does not care about their Athletics Department.

May we ALL be drunk and not go to class that day.

Well, I disagree with the decision, but maybe the school isn't totally stupid because they know that the students who are on the Boulevard are the ones who don't care about the Athletics Department or actually going to the game, and just care about an officially sanctioned party in the main quad.
