SMU's Willis still suspended

By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News

Quarterback Justin Willis remained suspended from the team pending further investigation going into Saturday's 2 p.m. game against Marshall.

"Until this thing is resolved...," coach Phil Bennett said. "Your starting quarterback is not here. You move on, but to say it's normal, it's not."

Briefly ...

Defensive end Justin Rogers (neck sprain) said he received good news from MRI results Wednesday, but Coach Phil Bennett said it is doubtful Rogers will play Saturday. That would mean SMU may be without both of its starting defensive ends. Bennett said Cory Muse (bone bruise in right knee) will not play.

The women's basketball team tied for second with Tulsa in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll. Rice is the preseason favorite. SMU 6-3 junior post Janielle Dodds (15.8 points avg., 8.5 rebounds avg.) was named to the preseason all-conference team.

The SMU women open practice to the public at 6 p.m. Friday at Moody Coliseum.

The men's basketball team will have a school-record five nationally televised games this season. Four will be on CSTV and one, at Memphis on Feb. 3, on ESPN2.

At least Bennett seems to be as pi$$ed as the rest of us.

Yikes. Losing one is bad, but both? Time for Troy Therien and Patrick Handy to come up with the games of their lives.

I am interested to see what Patrick Handy can do-I think he has great potential

Handy is a great speed rushing end. His quick feet will allow him to get ample pressure on the QB.
