Hamstring injury leaves SMU RB Martin questionable

01:59 AM CDT on Friday, October 13, 2006

By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News

Sophomore running back DeMyron Martin is questionable for Saturday's game against Marshall because of a strained left hamstring. Martin missed three games because of a foot injury before returning last week against UT-El Paso, leading SMU with 55 yards on 17 carries.

Martin did not practice Thursday.

But I can't think of a better comeback right now.

OC,

When are you ever going to start listening to me and what I've told you. You said Willis was toast. Did you take the Germans in World War II?

this is Boston Red Sox Curse Syndrome-every school has its own problems and Curses are usually nothing morte than excuses for failures in some way to build a strong team. UTEP lost its best Defensive Player before last week. TCU has had 3 great RBs and its top recever plus a QB hurt this year, UT had an All-Conference DE and OLM out, -big deal. What matters is whether you have recruited well enough to replace them.

Whenever anything bad happens, why don't we bring the late Roy Orbison back from the dead and have him sing, "It's over, It's Over, It's Over.''

This fatalist attitude surrounding our program blows!!

Great point. A good team has second and third teamers ready to play. There is not a great drop off when the first teamer gets hurt. As we all know, SMU has not had the depth to do this. However, with Bennett's recruiting philosophy of recruiting "sleepers" and "diamonds in the rough" type recruits, you would think they would be ready to produce. Yeah right...that is why it is important to target JUCO players and transfers every year so you can accumlate the depth. TCU, UTEP, and now Tulsa are doing this and it shows. SMU, on the other hand, is too busy cutting credit hours from potential transfers and JUCO players to get this done. Great model SMU!

Give it a rest. Any team would be hurt by their best player getting injured, especially one so important to the offfense. And we do have players to take up some of the slack, but, surprise, they aren't as good as Martin.

Coach Bennett has said repeatedly this season that playing the subs late in the Sam Houston State and Arkansas State routs helped immensely from an experience standpoint, and the talent level of the No. 2s is significantly improved over years past.

he came back too early.. hamstring injuries are the most common injuries when a guy comes back too early from an ankle or foot injury.. they try to favor that foot or ankle and put more strain on other muscles
