Wins for a Bowl Bid

Postby ponynotsoexpress2007 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 5:50 pm

Just wondering...how many wins will it take SMU to reach a bowl game. I thought to be bowl eligible you only need 6 but I don't think SMU will get a bid going 6 - 6. I know I am jumping the gun a little.

YES, you must go .500 during the season. so 6-6 is adequate but CUSA only has so many bowl bids.

I see it unlikely for us to earn an atlarge bid from a different bowl but 6 wins could get us to a bowl.

I am thinking more of the lines of 7 and 8 will make it a lock.

I am almost positive that SMU will get a bowl with 6 wins. But that's irrelevant 'cause we'll have more than 6. The pub surrounding a bowl for us, I hope, will be amazing.

This 25 year old alum would love to see it for the first time...

My dad's a UT alum so I doubt the game was on back then.

This has been the subject of considerable debate. While bowls want teams that travel a lot of fans, some bowl, somewhere, will offer SMU a bid if the Ponies go 6-6 just because of the media attention.

7-5 means 4-4 CUSA. That's not going to get one of the CUSA bids.

Umm... no. We are 3-3 (1-1). So for us to be 7-5, we would have to win 4 more and lose 2. Putting us at 5-3 in conference.

My bad, bad math. 5--3 in CUSA, 6 Div-1A wins.

Div-1A doesn't matter. IIRC, you can play Temple clones 4 times OOC and they count to eligibility. Good luck finding a bowl that will bid that though. "Temple Creampie Bowl"

The NCAA counts ONE 1-AA win for a bowl bid now. so 6-6 will get us their. But 7 is still a better number for a bowl than 6 in my opinion.

I thought everybody complains about SMU's lack of media attention.

6-6 will not get SMU into a bowl. Don't be silly.
