DENTON, Texas -- North Texas coach Darrell Dickey is recovering from a heart attack he suffered at home late Thursday.
Dickey had a surgical procedure Friday and was released from the hospital Saturday, the school said. Assistant coach Kenny Evan will perform any duties Dickey can't handle from home.
Dickey kept his hospitalization secret until he could tell his players and assistant coaches about it during a team meeting Sunday after they returned from having the weekend off. The team's last game was a seven-overtime victory over Florida International on Oct. 7.
North Texas (2-4) will face Arkansas State on Saturday.
Dickey is in his ninth year as North Texas coach. He was diagnosed with diabetes after last season.
