Statistics don't give the whole picture, but they can reveal where a program is going. The results from the ones I chose are pretty striking, especially the last one.

Points
2005 -- 229 (20.7)
2006 -- 194 (27.7)

Total offense
2005 -- 308 ypg
2006 -- 325 ypg

Total defense
2005 -- 393 ypg
2006 -- 348 ypg

Avg. Penalty yards we incur
2005 -- 61
2006 -- 53

3rd Down defense
2005 -- 40 percent
2006 -- 48 percent

Touchdowns scored
2005 -- 25
2006 -- 25

Are the 2005 stats for the whole season or through the first 7 games?

They look to be for the whole season - if you look at the top stat, it's points. And then it breaks it down to a ppg average. That should tell you all you need to know (as in we are averaging a lot mor ppg than last season, and yet that stat shows more total points for last season... hence all 12 games).

For some reason I am totally hypnotized by LonghornFan68's "walk the dinosaur" avator...

Not to downgrade the teams accomplishments but for the sake of being objective.....

1. Last season we finished 104th in Total Offense and 105th in TD's of 117 D1-A programs. So our numbers last year were truely and utterly horrendous. There was almost nowhere to go but up.

2. Our OOC schedule last year consisted of A&M, Baylor, TCU. That is a far cry from Texas Tech and the 3 pop warner teams (one of which beat us  ) on our OOC this season.

With that said we have had a drastic improvement this season being 74th overall in Total Offense and in the top 40 of TD's scored as opposed to where we were last year. Regardless of our schedule this season compared to last this is still a reason for optimisim. Just wanted to put some further information out there as far as comparing this season's performance to last season's.

The only stat that matters to me is points per game, points against per game.

Well the only stats that matter to me is the score at the end of the game and getting that W
