Justin Willis

Many freshmen, especially freshman quarterbacks, require a period of adjustment, learning curve, etc. -- call it what you will. For some guys, it takes a season. For others, a little more or a little less.

Willis didn't put up sizzling numbers in his first two games, the losses to Texas Tech and North Texas. In the four games in which he has played since, SMU is 4-0 and he has thrown 15 touchdowns -- 3.75 touchdown passes per game.

Really remarkable. If you'd told me this before the season started, I would scarcely been able to believe you. What is our offense going to look like with a healthy DeMyron Martin? He carried us on his back at times last year.

Yep, I totally expected this season to be Willis getting the bugs out, while DeMyron carried the team on his shoulders. I didn't see this coming at all. Sure, it's just pollyanna homerism, but with Willis out there, I think this team can hang with anyone on the schedule. Of course, this year that's not saying a lot lol.

He probably has more touchdowns than passes he was allowed in the Tech game.

Nope. Equal. He has 16 touchdown passes total.... and he was 9 of 16 for 69 yards at Tech.

His numbers are amazing, especially for a freshman.

Personally, I like these numbers even better:
7 wins in the last 10 games.

Number 10 in the Nation in Passer Rating.
Number 4 in the Nation in Completion Percentage.
Tied for 9th in Touchdowns.

And there exactly 100 QBs in the country with more interceptions than his paltry 3.

Need we say more? Pretty impressive.

Would like to see how Willis would have fared playing TT & UNT, without the shackles the coaching staff placed on him at the time.

by that's great raplh
lets just worry about the rest of the season, not games we already lost

we can win every game we play and be 9 and 3

agreed on both counts

Could or should win the rest?

I concur that we could win the rest of our games. That is different than saying we should win the rest of them though. 3 more wins is a must, 4 will be very good, 5 of 5 and I will die a happy man.

Couldn't pickup the sarcasm from my previous 1700 posts, eh?

This is the year of the FRESHMEN QB...redshirt or true, this year in CFB has been a great one to watch a first year starter or first year QB take the calls under center.

Colt McCoy, Nate Davis, Tim Tebow, Matt Stafford, Riley Skinner, Thaddeus Lewis, Justin Willis, and I am sure that I am leaving a few more frosh QBs out.

Theses guys are/will be/have led their teams this year.

KEEP UP the great work Justin!
