Team effort

While it's easy to point the finger at the SMU defense-or lack thereof regarding the passing game-it's apparent that nothing short of an all-around effort did us in vs. ECU.

The 3rd quarter played out the way it needed to for SMU to get back into the game. Three times our O had the ball with a short field, and three times we got no points. The unimaginative play calling reared its ugly head again.

Opportunity presented itself at the end of the first half to get some points. Poor clock management reared its ugly head again.

I'm not sure about this, but I'm pretty sure Blake Warren must have the school record for return TDs called back because of a penalty. No points again.

ECU was one of the worst teams in ECU the week before they played SMU last year. They beat SMU, and improved. This year they play a tough schedule early, improve again, and whip SMU.

I think I agree with Stallion...SMU had 4 wins to get to 4-3, but a I-AA school and three schools not in the nation's top 90 really don't account for a whole lot.

That having been said, I'll see ya'll at Ford for Homecoming. Hopefully something changes vs. UAB.

We were FLAT OUT not prepared for the Pinkey Attack. Coaches did not get the team ready to prepare for Pinkney or ECU as a team.

I think it had a little bit more to do with ECU. Willis really had trouble today finding his initial receiver-still has some learning to do against better competition. Of course, part of that is the Receivers getting opened-which appears they didn't and the play of the DBs. It is just so obvious that Pickney today had a better command of what he wanted to do. ECU did a lot better job in stopping our passing attack. Give them some credit. Willis did make some nice plays but few were to his initial receiver.

Also don't discount the 8 penalties for 100 yards. Basically we forfeited 1/3 of our total offense for the game, plus the return TD. I didn't watch and our radio guys didn't like some of the calls, but this happens to us too many times for me to believe they were bad calls. We continue to shoot ourselves in the foot in games when we get behind. We keep ourselves from getting back into the game.
