Jersey numbers for new recruits

Based on the numbers worn by this year's outgoing seniors, and the jerseys not worn this year, here's what I think each guy should wear year.

1 : Richuel Massey - RBs look good in single-digit numbers

9 : Fred Turner - same reason

16 : Ricky Joe Meeks - worked pretty well for that Joe Montana guy, right?

17 : Chris Phillips - classic QB number

24 : C.D. Moss - 84 would be a gimme (so his jersey would look like Randy Moss), but you never see a DB in the 80s

25 : Jaymond Cleveland - not the typical WR number, but Cody Cardwell caught his share of passes wearing it

29 : Joe Sturdivant - gets to wear Eric Dickerson's "other" number

39 : Cedric Dorsey

40 : Cory Muse - LBs who wear numbers in the 40s look faster

42: Avery Cleveland - could have Bordano-like effect on defense

43 : Ervin McGee - high number will make opponents think he's a reeeeeally fast LB

44 : Zach Hall - classic college LB number

50 : Bryan Turner - if he's going to be a center, he's got to stay in the 50s

56 : Brandon Bonds - in tribute to his brother Byron

73 : Caleb Peveto - tackles are obligated (in my rules, anyway) to wear numbers in the 70s

79 : Kenard Burley - some say he's built like former Dallas OT Erik Williams .... why not wear his number?

87 : Blake Warren - can't think of a funny comment, but it just seems right to throw a WR in the 80s

99 : Desmond Jones - he's got Warren Sapp's build, sort of, and has a non-stop motor. And 99 is just a cool number.

Look for Meeks in #5, although #17 would be a touch nostalgic (Mt. Vernon High connection). Dorsey was #23 I think, and Bonds is big enough to get whatever jersey he wants.

Robert Gilmore already has #5, and I did the list based on the notion of not creating dupilcate numbers, (although that does happen every now and then.) Of course, we could throw #17 on Meeks, make Phillips #16 or #9 and bump Fred Turner up.

Personally, I'd love to see Turner, as an RB/DB, wear a really wild number, like in the 80s or 90s. Somehow, I don't see it happening.

Diddo on Meeks. He just has to be #17. Although, that's not the number he wore in HS.

Gilmore is taking over KG's #1. Who's taking over Vic's #55?

Actually, I live here. I grew up in MV and my heart and parents are still there. DQs are pretty hard to find around here.

Here's a little more Don Meredith trivia. He wore #88 in football b/c that's the number worn a few years earlier by his older brother Billy Jack (who later played at TCU). Don wore #17 in basketball - which most people say was his best sport.

I believe dandydon's 52 points in one game at the old Dr. Pepper tourny is still a record.

While I have never actually tried to verify it, I hear from people all the time that it is still the record.
