Could anyone hear through the SMU broadcast that when ECU made a first down, you could their PA guy say,
"First down, Piiiiiiirates!" If only he could have finished saying aaaarrrgg. Pretty funny. I know Rich was laughing at it.

The ECU fans would respond by yelling "aarrrrrg, first down". There was also a really corny video at the beginning of the game that showed an ECU pirate ship sinking opponents ships. It was pretty funny.

That would have made any trip worth it.

You guys wish you had the atmosphere you saw in Greenville. I don't think you have room to talk with that 114th ranking of 126 listed schools in 2005 attendance. There has been more than 14k at high school football games in the state of Texas than your average attendance.

It was pretty lame if you ask me. And if the only entertainment competition SMU football had was Bingo at the Firehall, we might draw a few more fans. But Dallas is a big city. We have to compete with the Stars, Mavericks, Rangers, and Cowboys. We have 3 Division I schools in the metroplex. SMU, UNT, and TCU. Texas and OU poach by playing a game in Dallas every year. We have had 18 losing seasons in a row. When you have the competition that we have for entertainment dollars and a losing team and a student body 1/3 the size of ECU's, you wouldn't get a lot of fans, either. And by the way, I heard at the game that ECU is trying to get fans to by tickets to give away to Marines at nearby Camp LeJune. If they can have liberty, Marines would eat dirt to get away from Camp L. Any excuse will do. Its easy to get attendance when you have a captive audience.

Nah .... to pull that off, we'd have to live in Greenville.

And it's called Military Appreciation Day, we do it every year.

So you increased your attendance by giving away tickets to military folks, not rounding up actual fans? Hardly the basis for talking about someone else's crowd.
As for the P.A. announcer: yet another example of a guy who doesn't understand that the announcer is NOT part of the entertainment. He is there only to give information. P.A. guys are like refs: the best ones make you wonder if they were even there because they understood that the main attraction is the players and coaches who actually take part in the game.

But now that we're getting all of this coverage in the Dallas Morning News (as documented by a very astute poster in another thread) the fans are gonna start rolling in per McClown and mr. p. Stay tuned...
