Oct. 24, 2006

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU senior Justin Rogers has been named to the Mid-Season Watch List for the 2006 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, the Hendricks Foundation announced today.

Rogers, a Greenville, Texas, native, led C-USA in sacks last season and leads the league again in 2006. He also anchors a defense that leads C-USA and ranks 14th in the nation overall in rushing defense.

The 28-man Watch List will be shortened to include five to six finalists in November, and the final vote will be concluded on Dec. 4. The 2006 Hendricks Award winner will be announced Dec. 6.

Previous award recipients include Terrell Suggs of Arizona State (2002),
David Pollack of Georgia (2003, 04) and Elvis Dumervil of Louisville (2005).

I hope he picks up a few sacks these next few games, and makes it to the stage!

This is fantastic news for a guy who has worked so hard to make himself better every year, and who has come back from a really scary neck injury. I suppose SMU's status on the national (football) stage is going to prevent him from winning, even if he racked up 20 sacks from here on out, but this is terrific news. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

Absolutely - nobody deserves this kind of national recognition more. Congratulations, Justin!

It's amazing how much people like to complain at each other when something like this is announced, and should be celebrated.

Congrats. The more games we win the more these guys will get noticed. They work to hard to be passed over.
