Nelson's record will never be broken because there will never be another war that requires everyone in the PGA to quit so they can fight.

I'm just making sure that when SMU releases its List of the 100 Greatest Football Players in SMU History for its 100th Anniversary of its inception in 2015 that SMU will include Craig James and Eric Dickerson among the Top 100.

Wouldn't SMU have to get to a bowl for anybody to have a shot at that record? After twenty years, that's looking like a pretty safe bet Stallion.

Hey SMUWins..a little education for you on the Nelson streak.....he DID have more than challenging competition during the streak....do the names Sam Snead / Denny Shute / "Jug" McSpaden / Ky Laffoon / Craig Wood / Claude Harmon / Johnny Bulla / Henri Pcard / Johnny Revolta / Toney Penna / Joe Kirkwood / Ed Furgol / "Dutch" Harrison / Gene Sarazan / Mike Turnesa / Sam Byrd / Vic Ghezzi / Ben Hogan / Jimmy Hines and Jimmy Demaret mean anything to 'ya?? The war, as it relates to "quality" players was a secondary / non issue. Long Live lord Byron.

Also, and I could be mistaken on this, I think he did it in 13 consecutive weeks did he not? No resting, no relaxing, no break in between.

Streak was from March 8, 1945 - Aug. 11, 1945....Nelson won 12 "tournaments" in a row, but 2, the first (Miami 4 ball) and the last (Spring Lake Pro-Member) were unofficial PGA Tour events.

So technically, the streak was 10....from March 16 - Aug. 4, 1945..and yes, he played every week...as Herbert Warren Wind said, "The record shattering performances of Lord Byron were compiled over a backbreaking number of tournaments, hunched one upon the other, week after week. The surest method for appreciating Nelson's wondrous consistency is to travel the same tormenting grind that he did, tournament for tournament, trail for trail, total for total."

Nelson won 18 times in 1945, and as mentioned in a previous post, over some mighty tough competition.

Oh I dunno I've already heard Justin Willis being compared to the greatest of all time for his exploits against Arkansas Tech, Sam Hoston State Penitentiary and the University of Northern Teachers College. I never thought I'd see Mike Romo, Bill Kiely or McClown lauded as some of the greats in SMU History either.
