I don't know if our conference is going to have an excess of bowl eligible teams or not but there could very well be some unfilled bowl berths this season.

The Big 10 could very well have only 6 bowl teams for 7 berths and then with the likelyhood of 2 of their teams going to BCS bowls, that would leave openings in:

Insight Bowl in Phoenix and Motor City Bowl in Detroit.

The SEC will very likely have 8 bowl teams for it's 8 berths but they will probably get a 2nd team into the BCS, leaving one opening:

Independence Bowl in Shreveport.

The Big 12 has a good chance of having only 7 teams eligible to fill their 8 slots leaving an opening in the:

Texas Bowl in Houston.

Also, the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego has 1 at large spot.

I have a hard time believing the Big 12 finishes with only 7 bowl eligible teams:

Iowa State (six losses, would have to run table)

As for the SEC, that looks right, but Kentucky has La-Monroe on the schedule and Vanderbilt. Win both of those and they could have 9 eligible teams and fill all their spots even with 2 BCS teams.

In the Big 10,there are 5 bowl eligible teams today. 5 win Purdue and 5 win Indiana play eachother so they are guaranteed 6 bowl eligible teams. 4 win Michigan State also plays Purdue, Minnisota and Penn State. They could still fill their slots as well.

I wouldn't worry about Michigan State. Even though the Spartans have back-to-back games against Minnesota and Purdue, I can see them splitting and then going to Penn State and losing. That team has no courage.

Indiana should get its sixth win against Minnesota this weekend. The Gophers have quit on Glen Mason. They also entertain Michigan. The Purdue game is at West Lafayette.

Purdue can theoretically win out with Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana and at Hawaii. Even if they split, that's 7 wins.

Penn State should finish with eight wins. They still have to play Temple and Michigan State.

The Big 10 bowl teams are: Ohio State (BCS), Michigan (BCS), Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Penn State and Indiana.

A bowl will take a 6-6 Indiana team because their fans will travel and the potential of a large gate.

The ACC will have 8 bowl teams and 1 in the BCS.
The Big XII will have 9 bowl teams, 1 in the BCS.
The Big 10 will have 8 bowl teams, 2 in the BCS.
The Big East will have 6 Bowl teams, 1 in the BCS.
The Pac 10 will have 7 bowl teams, 1 in the BCS.
The SEC will have 9 bowl teams, 2 in the BCS.
Boise St. and ND will be the other 2 at-large BCS teams.
That means the WAC will have one extra team going bowling.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Big East picked up at-large bids because of the success they have had and the Mountain West pick up 1 to because of the names in their Conference.

We won't get an at-large bid.

If the MWC's last eligible team is NM or Wyoming, I won't be surprised if they are snubbed. Utah and BYU won't get snubbed but others might.

So negative. Don't forget we could get an at-large bid from the Tropical Punch Kool-Aid Bowl...even at 6-6, I bet!!
